mooster 1
I know there are seperate forums for hounds, retrievers and terriers but thought i would raise this as a general talk. (If that breaks any rules I apologise and will move to individual dog discussions) I was leafing through some of my dog books this evening and am wondering if anyone still works or has worked any of the following pedigree dogs all of which were originally bred for the field. I know many will say that pedigrees have had all the spirit bred out of them and have no brains etc but it would be interesting to hear from anyone who has real experience to the contrary. Ones that came to mind are as follows: RETRIEVERS: English/Irish/Gordon setter Cocker or Clumber spaniel. Standard poodle!!!!? TERRIERS: Fox terrier Cairn terrier West highland white!!!? HOUNDS: Anybody still know of Basset hounds (pre or post ban) Or maybe someone works an unusual pedigree which I haven't mentioned.

mad al 146
Meet Gus . He is a traditional Shar Pei, I don't actually work him but take him into our fields for a mooch with the air rifle . "So what", you might be thinking, well he has raised rabbits every time for me and we've had loads of meals as a result . Got to make sure I get to it before him once I've shot it mind . I'm looking forward to taking our Lurcher pup Lily out with him though , once Gus has raised a rabbit, if it bolts and he hasn't heard my command, he hasn't a cat's chance in Hell of catching it  , now Lily will be a different prospect . gibby 0
Ive always wanted a dalmation from working lines but i doubt if you can find one these days. They were used as carriage dogs in the 18th century to walk beside horses and carriages to protect them i think. And also they have been used as hounds too before that. And I believe they have used as hounds more recently as well.
