I have always wondered if retarded people from Birmingham just talk normal?

You can talk with all your double L's and G's in your place names and spitting when you talk. Sometimes it sounds like your trying to bring up phlegm when your asking for something. x x

Yorkshire = gods language

Accents are continualy evolving and older words dropping out of favour.

I wonder how many of the younger Geordies on here can tell me the meaning of these words ?

1, Mell.

2, Gully.

3, Gallower.

4, Cuddy.

Cheers,

Can tell you in Scotland 1 is what you chap posts in with, spoken like Mell but spelt "Maul"... 2 is what you would call like a passage between hills(sort of) and 4....is a horse...

Yeah mate, 1, is a big hammer , 2 is a knife, usually a bread knife type, 3 & 4 are horses or ponies ! Words in everyday usage 40-50 years ago, never heard now.

Cheers.

Cuddy gets used round my way all the time,, as in,, "bet theirs some great eating in one oh those cuddys " !! lol mmm horse steak !!

To be fair though, it is a word that older folk use more than younger

Went to Dundalk to visit my family and I couldn't understand what my cousin was saying... Everything was his Yoke, I think even some people were described as yokes lol

Was out salmon netting with my Grandad and him i was only a young lad, I swear he said throw the anchor out lol.... He struggled like f#ck pulling the net till he realised " the wee fecker has thrown the anchor" lol....it was his fault ,bloody accents....

I like accents, I hate hearing my own yokel voice, but on the whole I like accents

Totally agree with you there Newkid, I like accents too, of all types, makes Britain British..

Except for that chavy American based gangsta lingo and accent that goes with it, no matter where its from... ! No place for it here.

Oh yer, whilst i'm on the subject, Americana bastardisations of our language too, every letter delivered to my door is 'POST', delivered by a fecking 'postman' and not fecking mail etc...!!! :censored:
