If your dog was completely in the right then of course you should ask him to foot the bill. Any decent person would pay up without any questions asked.

Really?   Please explain how this will help cover the vets bill or achieve anything useful at all?   It would make me think you were shy of talking to the man.

Thats your call, if you go to police it may end up turning nasty, if you know the owner and they are cooperative, i personally would approach them with a copy of the bill, even a donation towards the

might be wrong but i think dogs have to be on lead near public roads

just found this info

Dogs Act 1871

It is a civil offence if a dog is dangerous (to people or animals) and not kept under proper control (generally regarded as not on a lead nor muzzled). This law can apply wherever the incident happened. The dog can be subject to a control or a destruction order and you may have to pay costs

A dog is considered ‘under control’ if it is on a lead held by someone able to control the dog. So, for example, a large dog would not be ‘under control’ if its lead was held by a child who would be unable to restrain the dog if it strained against the lead.

It isn't necessary for dogs to be leashed at all times. However, dogs must be kept on a lead in designated pedestrian zones and on land where livestock is present. Councils can also introduce bye-laws to indicate areas where leashing is required, such as in public parks.

If you know the bloke then I would say you'll have to make a visit to him. I'm hoping the bloke has a back bone and will offer to pay the bill without asking ? I've had 2 situations before with mine. 1 of which was their dog was driving mine mad, constantly trying to hump her. I did warn the guy but he laughed and said his dog needed telling off ! Eventually that happened BUT I still paid his vets bill. IMO the right thing to do.

Hope the pup makes a swift and full recovery

Well that's a completely different scenario... Can't believe you paid for that if you warned him, I'd have politely told him to "f**k off!!!".

@ Lab - I know the guy, our kids go to school together and see him all the time. Bottom line is the dog got a bit more than a telling off and imo the decent thing to do was pay  As for the original thread the guy should be forth coming with the money without a doubt. If not for the consideration of the pup but to be selfish and try to protect his dog ? If not then the only way is to ring local Police dog warden, ( anonymously @ first ) and see how you stand in the eye's of the law ?

nothing to do with being shy for 1 if the owner had any brains or commonsence then there wudnt be a thread on here about would there????? and how many times has the dog attacked other dogs ??? does it not tell you something about dog and owner. fcuk touting to the police just do the dog in n if he comes knocking at your door knock the shit outa him too cause a dog and owner like that is a danger to the public

I'd feel like a coward if I behaved like that.

youd feel more of a coward when he tells you to fcuk aff and then you start a new thread on here saying how much your offended and hurt by his actions and that you dont know what else to do
