skycat 6,173
Parvo is simply a particularly virulent form of gastro enteritis and enteritis means inflammation of the gut. Parvo, as has already been said, has a particularly nasty and unique smell about the diarrhoea: once smelled, never forgotten, and the dog is very ill with it as well. the dog will be very lethargic and won't even want to drink. It can kill in as little as 24 hours, BUT... I've had apparently healthy dogs crap out nasty looking red gunk like that, without even having a temperature. Dogs pick up all sorts of crap which could cause a bacterial infection, not to mention the fact that we have had a lot of wet and warmish weather which makes it easy for bacteria to survive outside the body. The thing is to rest the gut completely for 24 hours. Nothing except water. Don't let the dog drink loads, just small amounts of luke warm water every half hour. If the dog appears ill in any way: depressed, lethargic, then get it to the vets ASAP. If the dog appears fine in itself then just rest the gut, then when you start feeding again offer a small amount of boiled rice and either white fish or boiled chicken with no bones or skin. Also: get some Tree Barks Powder from Dorwest Herbs: this helps to line an inflamed gut and ease the passage of food through the gut. It is almost the same as Slippery Elm which used to be the standard remedy for diarrhoea in humans at one time. This could also be colitis as has already been suggested, http://pets.webmd.com/dogs/colitis-dogs-symptoms-treatment The best place to test for dehydration in a dog is on top of the skull where the skin is naturally tighter: pick up a pinch of skin and pull it away from the head, then release immediately. It should return to normal straight away: if it stays tented, the dog is dehydrated and needs veterinary attention.

Brian-911 210
She in her self seems 90 % I'd say, she wants to eat but like I said I'm really not sure what to give her. I have chicken and rice ready to go but should I give her this if she still have the runs? It was more of a spray earlier as she hasn't anything in her body to pass out !
