David Adamson 0
I have a lurcher who is two called Perry, I was out walking with him yesterday with two pure breed whippets, and we noticed that his back right leg kicks out when he is running at speed. His gate was certainly not normal... I'm really worried about him, he is roughly 2 years old, I rescued him from a shelter, and the vet checked him over, gave him his jabs etc, but this leg thing is something I've just noticed... Any advice is very welcome before I take him to the vets...

paulus 26
make sure you find a vet who knows his or her way around running dogs your average town vet is not going to be specialized enough and may cost you more in the long run doing tests to identify the problems that an expierenced running dog vet wouldnt need to do

sandymere 8,263
As Oddser suggest a gracillis injury will present as the leg kicking out. Look for bruising and compare the inner thigh muscles of the two legs, has one got a step/bulge? Link to pic notice the difference? http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=gracillis+muscle+greyhounds&view=detail&id=648A7D05DDFFEA9915B025E320A0CC3D9FDCE9AE&first=

Matt3699 142
Well, I mean, it's a good guess. it could very well be a groin injury. I put 'lol' because I thought it was funny that this person managed to diagnose the dog without even seeing it and after a few people advised David to seek professional help from a running dog specialist. If Oddser is a vet then I take back my chuckle... But even still, it's hard to diagnose a dog without seeing it or getting further information.
