My little Jaunt

Recommended Posts

So the weather looked a bit overcast this morning, but loaded the car anyways and headed off to my permission. Got up there and the fields were really wet and boggy so decided to do a bit on the walls they normally hold a few. Done a 5 holer and sent in the stinker ................nothing. Ok not too worry, got to the next set and only a 5 holer too, netted it up and nothing.

Not disheartened head into the woods where theres a few small set to have a go on. The next 3 i got nothing :icon_eek: :icon_eek:

So headed to a bank in the woods onto the neighboring land and set up 12 nets here, very active looking set ...loads of digging being going on and plenty of droppings............................nothing. It started to rain a bit so i headed off back towards the car to have a smoke and a coffee.

I get there and theres a van parked behind my car. Anyway got chatting to the fella he knows the area really well and i was talking about land over the main road from my permission who owns it and how to get too it. He told me how to get there and i decided to go see the owner and ask about permission . Found him in the cow shed told him i was ferreting his neighbors land and was looking for more land......"well you wont be short of em here...overun with them". RESULT :boogy: :boogy: :boogy:

So he told me there was some near the house in a small bank and all on the othher side along the hedgerow. So it was only about 10 nets and as soon as the stinker went in ....rumble rumble ....BOLT.................and i see a black rabbit running accross the field...not fecking impressed, my fault i never netted the hole :whistling: . So mved down a bit further and set up again only 7 holes......in goes me stinker, not as quick this time but fter a few seconds the rumble happens and bolting out the hole INTO the net a bunny for the bag :toast: :toast:

So went over to the opposite side of the small field and the burrows are everywhere and a few rabbits bolting for cover...they were watching me ferret there mates. So netted up again by this time the light is fading on me so decided to pick the firs 15 holes and head home .....netted them up and sent in the stinker. I nearly cried......the stinker had pushed them further up the headgerow and 5-5 bolted where my nets werent...hahahahahaha. At least hes doing the business bolting them. Hadnt seen him for a bit and turned on the locator and he was there in front of me abut 4ft in the headgrow but underground........so i went round other side and just as i was getting there SQUEEEEEEL......i look over and theres a rabbit half out of the hole with my stinker dragging him back ...no net on the hole. Caught hold of the rabbit and despatched it and me ferret was running round looking for his wabbit...claws full of fur and looking mighty happy with himsef.

So only two in the bag but a cracking new permission which i may be asking for a hand doing as one person would be a nightmare and also some long nets would be handy so will put an add up for a buddy to help me on it soon.

Good result on the permo mate, and well done on persevering to get a couple in the bag.... Nothing worse than missing the 1 hole they bolt from eh....

It's times like that when you need a dog for marking, saves you so much time setting nets on empty burys...

oout today in buetiful north yorkshire, three novice jills and brand new mk3 locator,a nice dry day for a change, though a lot of the low lying setts were still very wet. i spent the day on a fairly steep wooded bank[much drier] and did quite a few smallish setts. Two of the young uns worked like demons, but the young poley drove me nuts,Finished the day with a dozen.Had two digs the mk3 took a bit of getting used to but was bang on when i got the knack of it. Walking back to the moter at dusk there was rabbits all over the place ,there has been no mxy whatsoever on this particular spot so another outing is on the cards very soon, cheers lads good hunting.
