milknhony 5
A puppies early days should be used up training and getting fit at a slow pace, would not consider running a dog till i could tell it not to chase a rabbit when off the lead and at liberty! then you may just have a dog that HUNTS and does not just chase, any dog will chase there is no skill in that, yea they may catch some and you may think you have had it off but back in the real world, you may just have a 2 bob rocket!!! Gaz_1989 9,539
What's the rush with people? Was only discussing this with my mate earlier. If/when I get a pup it won't be rushed. If I can hold it back until 18 months or more then all the better. A mate of mine has got a 2 year old deer x, still not slipped it on anything. Obviously it's seen bits mooching in the day but not slipped on anything. He's holding it right back. I'm sure it will make a good dog. Quote Link to post
alan81 110
has to be a piss take 5 months is far to young and 1 lad said if his pup wasn't catching double figures at 5 months it would get a bullet hahaha. i wouldn't start working a pup till its 8 months and i wouldn't give it any hard running till its 12 months it still a pup at 12 months. THE DEMON 93
its a bit young like but even the odd droped rabbit can do no harm just so it gets the taste then hold it back to its abit older it wont forget and will be keen as hell when its slipped proper on fresh free one atb Quote Link to post

Whats his rational for that ?? Was it imature ?? Two years is wasting time in the feild in my opinion... Yeah dont rush them, but the seasons aint that long and with hard frost you loose so many days.... Even at two he would still have to ease it in slowly so it may not be into its full swing till 3 years plus.. Plus if its no good its been a long wait to discover that... colliexgreyhound 119
far too young to be running a dog you will be hearing him squeling his head off every time you slip him on something if you keep running him at that age Quote Link to post
