busher01 5
I have always worked my dogs off slip leads but iv seen vidios of dogs hunting just in front of the owner. Is there a advantage of working off the lead.. Does this way encorage your dog to hunt up across fields ??? Quote Link to post

pinguu 169
I use slips but I'm sure there will be some that have a dog to heel, takes a good dog and handler for that I would have thought. Quote Link to post
reddawn 2,173
daytime i dont target hares, so i dont need to walk em up on a slip, so my dogs are always off the lead an hunting up during the day, same as ferreting, a decent dog that knows it job dont need a lead.. when its comes doon to lamping, some dogs are just too keen to be worked off a slip, an some do it fine, if im in company whilst lampin i use a slip, same as if im out meself with a young dog, then i use a slip, but if im out on me tod way a older dog, then i like to let them walk to heel an lamp without a slip lead 7 Quote Link to post

Different types of hunting scenarios, quarry, location, company etc. all have a say in leash or loose, whatever best lends itself to individual situations,a dog reacts faster than a slipper, sometimes that split second will determine the outcome of a chase and catch.
