Breeding a nice type..!

Recommended Posts

line breeding I have heard this one before it's all going well till you breed a litter of pups that come out deformed and can not catch a bunny in a phone box, then the said experts call that inbreeding why is this,,,

I dont think you would know if you had a lined bred dog, most of the best hare dogs lines have been going years and I have yet to see a deformed litter and I have bred lurcher for many more years than i have terriers, you will only get problems if you go the wrong way, like mother to Son if you go that way yes you will get deformed pups.

nae offence pal, but if you spent mare time oot in the field, working dogs, youd soon see that dogs of most shapes an sizes can catch, its hardly rocket science

Mate, are you putting that pic in the middle of those "breed standard" pics and diagrams to show us how nice your pup is ? By the way, there is NO breed standard for Lurchers.... and anyone "stacking"

Where do they get the other 10% ???   Cheers.

Kevin I'm trying not to be an arse here but if you line bred for 20 years or whatever it was what went wrong? If you've moved onto 1st x Whippet/Collie nowadays? Like I say I don't want to come across as a wanker but you leave yourself wide open to "debate" lol.saying Borders and Beardies were no good then shouting from the rooftops about Whippet/Collies? I'm fecking confused haha

I want whippet collie blood genes next coming into my line but as i have said i dont like creeping collies lurchers for lamping :whistling: and they are better collies out there, No this pups in the photo is not mine but its the type i want to use next, :victory: hence this is why i am here looking but i just cant find the right type dog or breeder hence the helping hints.

There have been plenty of "outcrosses" in coursing dogs. But if you are line breeding, then breed close but be prepared to cull hard. If you are breeding for appearance you will only cull the "ugly" ones. Hence your line will have a limited number of critters to choose your new breeding stock from, and you could have well culled the best, but ugly workers. It is often these dogs that produce "attractive" AND effective offspring

I haven't had to cull any pups over the years as they have all came out right, I dont breed that often now, BUT when you bring in new blood you do get the throw backs to whats in the new blood line, last time 1 of the pups was very whippet y fast little bitch turned on a sixpence , and others were like collie greyhound, and some like Saluki whippet all short coated and black and tan.
