JUst seen that "masterhunter" commented in another subject about using nightvision in conjunction with the longnets.

 

I think it sounds a good idea.

 

How many people here actually use N.V with the longnets ?

ive have not used NV for longnetting but have had a go of a yukon ranger which would be ideal for longnetting in my opinion it would save a lot of wasted drops, you can see the rabbits out to about 200 yards with one of these, they are a great bit of kit.

Yes, i agree, it would save a lot of time on "blank" drops. Especially round the areas i like to net, as there is a lot of folk who lamp the area.

most of the cheap NV stuff only has a short range due to the poor illuminators built in to them only giving you about 30 yards max but the yukon ranger will get you out 200 yard, if you shop around you pick one up for a little over £200.

Rabbithunter. I've used night vision for the past 25yrs. the 1st one I had was an ex-army head set monocular which was very clear, there was no magnification, it was for driving army vehicles. I could not see down the sights on my rifle with this thing stuck on my head, lasers weren't out then, but I found good use for it when long netting.

Pick up Debens new catalogue edition 20 page 59. they are selling a new night vision system nonocular called iGen. It is 2.6 magnification and its supposed to be the dogs whatsits. They have sold out what they had already, trade price is £359.00 retail ?.

On new ground I'm going to long net I always check the ground days beforehand with night vision, to see the amount of rabbits and the direction which most rabbits will run back to.This gives you the best positions to set your nets.

just a word of advice......personally i would ask to try out the NV equipment before you hand over your hard earned.......the claims made are not always correct, and dont forget, looking under street light is no good, you need to be able to see rabbits in the dark out on the field...and many cheap devices just cant do that IMHO...
