Condition, Food.

Recommended Posts

Hi just thort i would start a thread as i have not yet. Does condition matter a considerable amount in the field? if so how do you no when your Lurcher/fielddog is in tip top condition other then the obvious there look do you no how to read your dog well? so you no of there physical condition how there running and when there blowing out? what food do you feed kibble/raw what works best, i no what works best for me but i'm asking for what works best for the running lurcher/greyhound. what kibble is best how much do you feed etc etc,Post some pictures of your condition'd Hounds :).

Of course the condition matters in the field. When unfit they blow out of there arse after a run.

Raw all the way for me. Chicken mince, butchers scraps, offal, tripe, turkey necks, whole rabbit, lamb mince, lamb bones, brown bread, keepers mix, cod liver oil etc.

From what I've seen by me a lot off dogs look fit in good condition come to the lamp never last long ... In other words some look fitter than what they are .. And can always tell when mines geting tired just the way she runs

I do agree in that i think its easier to make a dog look fit than it is to get it fit.

My bitch can look pretty good after a few weeks of good road walking, but she is far from lamp fit after that.

awesome dogs lad's. Also do you's never change from raw food? i also just do kibble untill a show is in the wings then i go raw maybe 8 weeks out pre show i'm still a novice in conditioning and reading my dog but you lads seem to have it on key with running your dogs almost all the time, also it must be good for your dogs to live of the land nothing fresher then the food they have caught.

only one way to to get a dog fit and thats to run it fit

Absolute rubbish,a dog needs conditioning before it ever enters a field or even runs hard. When the hard work is done,on the road, lane etc.[this is the part a lot of owners tend to skip because of the time and toil involved},then its time to fine tune the mutt in the field, the easy bit.To many take shortcuts to get a dog at its optimum condition, shortcuts risk injury to the mutt and a dog thats exercised that way rarely reaches the potential of a littermate that was conditioned in the best interest of the dog,not the owner.

if you take a top class greyhound on average it will get 2 20 minute road walks a day and maybe a gallop once or twice a week, it will also race on average once a fortnight. as for lurchers running a dog fit will get it far fitter than any road work ever will. the mistake your making is thinking the dog has to be behind quarry to be run fit
