Dranny GLC 112
When ferreting my lurcher keeps disturbing my nets by poking his head in. Any good methods to stop him. Quote Link to post
dymented 2,220
its called time and effort bud the more you put in the more you get out put net over a hole weight for dog to stick head in and shout NO after a few times she will get the idea Quote Link to post

Giro 2,648
Keep trying fella.. Practice stay commands away from game.. Go back to ferreting, ferret a few with no nets. give the dog the stay command sitting a few feet off the holes not directly over them.. Its to keen and diving in when its hearing action.. once its running a few, try a few nets again with the dog just off them.. Is there other dogs on the sence ?? My own used to be a pain with other dogs about edging forward wanting in there first.. Dont loose your rag with the dog if its not working out, just go back to basics or hold the dog by the collar on the day rather than shouting and getting yourself hot and bothered.. Once its clicked its great, I would not ferret with out a dog these days 1 Quote Link to post
Jamie m 668
Point at the dog when you say no keep doing that then in the field when you point at him he will know it means no , like when your calling the dog back use arm movement etc etc , stealth , but as said time effort there's a lot to learn for a dog at the ferreting game , Quote Link to post
The one 8,477
Take him out with some nets net up a burrow and every time he goes near a net in a STERN voice say NETS after a few times he should be picking up that he can go round a burrow with out touching the nets Quote Link to post
broonball 38
My pup knows the wait command from walking. I use the same command round the warren and she has clicked with it, still edges forward. If I need to be silent when ferreting I pretend to pick up some soil and chuck it at her, that is the most effective way I have found.and she immediately backs off. Patience is also key. The first rabbit she ever caught she pulled out of a hole. Biggest mistake I made, she was too young. We live and learn. Cheers Quote Link to post
mhopton 807
Aim having the same trouble but every hole she puts her head in is the same hole she was marking before we net up? I some times worry about putting her of marking sets . I tried keeping her on a lead but she yelps on , but when she is off its a case of only 1in 10 that slip the net get away.she is learning but annoying some times atb mark Quote Link to post
