Cheers logun. I may keep chipping away at them. I'm not overly bothered for the job but at the same time I wouldn't say no! Unless our ideals didn't meet eye to eye. I'm not going to be told what to do and how to go about my business from somebody who knows little about it and dictates from a recommended working practice report.

I was just surprised to see them being pro active. So to speak!!

the trouble is moxy, if you want to work for the big boys , you gotta sing off thier song sheet, not wanting to be dictated to from a work practice report is going to loose you the work if you did get chance, its all about best practice, health and safety, hazzards , bla bla

Any of you moleys trap around the resovoirs for the water board??

I have on a few occasions passed my details to my local w/a procurement dept and been fecked off each time.

I cover a lot of ground around at least 5 of our local mole infested resovoirs. And for years no molecatching has been undertaken. I suppose lack of action on their behalf keeps me in business.

A regular farm Im on with at the moment phoned me today in total disbelief to tell me there was somebody molecatching on the neighbouring resovoir.

Hi vis and in a water authority motor.

I'm not one to mess with another mans shit but I had to jump the wall and have a look at what was buried below each alcathene marker.

They are using the cheapest scissor traps I have seen thrown into an oversized hole and the gaps blocked up with grass. Absolutely unbelievable.

Now after my failed attempts to provide my services and give them a proper job I find it insulting that they would employ the services of a clown who has fallen on his feet with another piss take of a contract.

My local council are no better. But that's another blood boiling tale.

Im a bit surprised the workers havent attempted the mole control.Up here it was always part of their duties.I believe its been sub contracted out now, for more than a decade.A keeper mate of mine ventured into commercial pest control, for a while round about the time.Anyway,he managed to pick up the contract for mole control , on the dam banks. He also acquired further work bedding in any boulders which became dislodged on the bank walls ! Dig a bigger hole and put a roadkill badger in it ............. then ring the local paper ........

that reminds me when road men putting white/ yellow lines down went over a dead badger for the crack and it made the national newspaper ........................if it was a rabbit or fox nothing would of been said..............burrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Just to follow on,i know the pest controller who currently has the contract,he is local to me.He told me last year that they had cut the budget for it.He says his number of visits to sites is going to reduce,as a result. Also some will be left altogether.I remember hearing about five or six years ago, that the water authority were looking for a moleman, but i found out after the position had been filled,by this guy.I doubt i would have applied at the time,as you had to be vat registered ,and all the associated stuff others have been talking about.I wasnt set up for it properly,(still plenty of cash in hand,at the time) LOL Edited by earth-thrower

Moxy, dont rule out getting yourself in there, further down the line.Keep at them,it can pay off sometimes. If you come across any of the staff ( outside squad , or shirt and tie men ) on your travels , dont be shy , get talking to them.....let them know your around.Good luck, and dont be tempted to use that " burrow blaster " of yours, if you get the job .( he-he) imagine what that will do, to them dam banks!! ( ha-ha-ha)

I do the odd golf course. One of which was a job I thought I really wanted. What a mistake. They are the worst payers I have ever come across but feel obliged as I do all the farms sorounding the course.

I also do a lot of local council land such as football fields and sport grounds but its the junior football and rugby associations that pay me. Not the council. This is wrong as the money is coming out of the pot for the kids.

Moley. I heed what you say. I respect the fact of H&S crap. I worked on the railways nationwide. Climbing and cutting trees down on a night for long enough. Not something I would go back to for any money.

I light of pest work for the W/A. I don't mind observing the rules and practices they lay down but I wouldn't be happy if I couldn't achieve results.

Back to my original post. The mole traps on the resovoir have not been touched since they went down and the molehills are getting back to the state they were before the kicking out exercise was undertaken.

Wheather the pestie is struggling to gain regular or any access to recover, reset or move his traps. Who knows?

But that's not a work practice I would want to put my name to. Just for a quick buck or to be in with the big boys.

I will stick with the golf courses who pay when they can be arsed.

Cheers for the replys

I contacted the local water board about 5 years ago offering my services as around the local reservoirs the moles were going daft. No-one really wanted to know and i ended up getting put through to main office and they were very rude and arrogant. Basically told me they already had molecatchers/pco's who were doing the job and i said if thats the case they are doing the job incredibly badly and put the phone down.

The reservoirs are still a disgrace now but i dont need to beg for work. Its just a shame as i could have the spots looking beautiful in a month.
