mattydski 560
I'm looking for a New fly rod.. just something smaller that my 7wt 10ft 6" and bigger than my 7ft 3wt I want a 9ft 5 wt as a stand alone set up.. or similar The rods I'considering are Sonik sk3 sk4 Greys GRXI+ Greys GS2 Wychwood aura or trufly Aleka A4 The reels im looking at really are the GRX500 in 4/5/6 size, as I already have the 6/7/8, and its excellent.. I also want opinions on WF5F lines, that are easily castable, not cheapest... cortland 444, greys platinum, rio?? Knowledgeable opinions please, based on experience, not guesswork.. And yes, I will be going in to a tackle shop to try before I buy ect... Thanks Matty Quote Link to post

baw 4,360
I have the greys GRXI+ great rod it's a 6wt, I've used it on boat and river fishing. Obviously can't cast as far as 7wt but still holds its own plus the fights much better. I'd Definately recommend it Quote Link to post
mattydski 560
i actually bought a greys GRXi+ last week....... its lovely... John Norris Sale, I was passing... so to speak.. cheers though.. Quote Link to post
Sirius 1,391
I really like the Greyflex which I have had a few years, its a great little rod Used this to fish river and small still water with and as I do as much Dry fly as I can I found it really suits my style of fishing. I am not one for thrashing brightly coloured lures across big lakes, but love stalking and hunting my fish. I have a Greys GRX reel also which compliments the rod really well Edited January 10, 2013 by Sirius Quote Link to post

Sirius 1,391
I agree and IMO there is little art in hauling lures across lakes, give me hunting a clever fish every time. Quote Link to post
baw 4,360
Totally agree guys, lure fishing is just spinning with a fly rod. 1 Quote Link to post
paulus 26
im no fly fisherman but spent a couple of years thrashing about on a small river for course fish (carp, roach, rudd and chub and the odd trout) on the dry fly, great fun Quote Link to post
rough dog 333
I`ve got Greys GRXI and Platinum X they are awesome rods but the rod I use mostly is a Sharpes Of Aberdeen Gordon 2 9`6 7 w. I`m not a lure puller either but I fish competitions so you have to give the fish what they want and at the depth they want, give me dry flies any day Quote Link to post

lovearun 1
ive got a reddinton 6wt cracking little rod for fishing buzzers just use a cheap steel reel and a cheap mill end floating line Quote Link to post
mattydski 560
I actually got a new 3wt reel as well this week... I had a lineaffe alps 3wt on my 3wt 7ft rod, it was shite... but served a purpose.. Now my 3 wt is basically my fun rod... nothing serious... so i bought a Brytec from Ebay.. its a machined alloy reel. that i have put my millend 3wt floating back on too...... seems ok for £22 Quote Link to post
