afternoon's ferreting

Recommended Posts

me and my 9 year old nephew went out for a couple of hours with the ferrets yesterday we started about 2pm and finished when it got dark. we went to a local spot that normally holds a few rabbits we arrived there about 2.20pm and got to the first set we netted up all the holes i let my nephew net most of them as he hasnt caught many in nets that he's set and i new it would make his day if he was to catch one in a net he had set on his own anyway he entered the ferret and we waited for a while then the ferret came out so we boxed the ferret and lifted the nets off and moved on to the next set we tried about all four sets in the first strip wood but nothing was at home so we moved to the other strip wood and found a 3 holer so i netted 2 of the holes that were in the brambles and to hard to net for my nephew and he netted the easy hole he entered the ferret again and about 40 seconds later a rabbit bolted into the net he had set you would have thought he had won the lottery by his reaction  i quickly dispatched it while he re-netted the hole we waited again hoping another would bolt but there was no more home we quickly took the nets off and moved on to the next set as light was fading we netted all four holes or what we thought was all the holes he entered the ferret then a few seconds later a rabbit bolted behind my nephew from a hole under a log that we'd missed then a few seconds later another one bolted in to a net i dispatched the rabbit and my nephew netted the hole again but that was all the rabbits from that set and as it was getting dark we desided to call it a day and headed back to the car we only ended up with 2 rabbits but it was a very enjoyable afternoon. atb hope you like the write up and pics

Only little bits this year where the bunnies have been causing damage. Trying to build stock up in other areas, and we have been hit by a bit of myxy as well.
