zini 1,939
From your list of rifles I would not buy any I'm afraid either friend . Do as the other lads have said and buy second hand. Air Arms or Weihrauch . Something like this one here that is well within your budget. http://www.guntrader.co.uk/Guns-For-Sale/Weihrauch_Air-Rifle_HW-95_For-Sale_121210212355823 Si. Soop 1
Thanks guys. Got my driving test in a few weeks so hopefully i'll pass and be able to borrow the car to go and pick something nice up second hand. No one seems to be selling anything in London! Quote Link to post
secretagentmole 1,701
Righty ho old chap. Webley Stingray Mark 2, forget, very over priced, I can recommend exactly the same gun at half the price, walnut stocked, same Walther barrel, same Swedish spring, same Quattro 2 stage trigger, same recoil absorbing system, they are known as a Hatsan 55 (.177) or 60 (.22). It is the same gun, just half the price, shopping around you can get one for under £100! With your budget I would not recommend it however. They are great guns, but you can get more with your budget! For a few quid more you can pick up an HW99, this is a better gun than the Hatsan 55 or 60! A few quid more will see you with the Carlsberg of break barrels, an HW95! Your budget will see you with a good range of secondhand rifles, the TX200, the HW77, , 95, 90, 97 or 99 too! If you have to buy new, go for the 99, if your heart is still stuck on a Stingray however, buy a Hatsan (I have one because I like them)! Quote Link to post
Soop 1
So from a bit of reading around a forum lurking it is my understanding that in order of best to worst it is: TX200>HW95>HW99 ? What's all this buisness of putting K's and S's on the end of the Weihrauch model numbers? Something to do with silencers? Quote Link to post
secretagentmole 1,701
K is Karbine, ie short barreled, S is Sporter, meaning the stock is more traditionally shaped, not a thumbhole stock (that is a T)! 1 Quote Link to post
Skot Ruthless Teale 1,701
So from a bit of reading around a forum lurking it is my understanding that in order of best to worst it is: TX200>HW95>HW99 ? What's all this buisness of putting K's and S's on the end of the Weihrauch model numbers? Something to do with silencers? thats about right in most peoples oppinions. although i would prefer the hw95(k) to a tx200. but thats just my oppinion. some say tx200 is best springer, others say pro sport. others (me included) would say HW97....... then theres the hw77 (near enough same gun!) then theres the + 95 , 98... 90 gas ram. thing is mate, there ALL AS GOOD AS EACHOTHER. same accuracy, same power... its just which you as a person prefer. we all have different styles and tastes. some like light (eg 95) some like heavy ()...some like a break barrel, some like an underlever. good luck finding the right gun for yourself lol might take a while and quite a bit of money but you will get there in the end LOL Quote Link to post
silentshot1 206
Simply can't beat a weihrauch for reliability and years of service. I was given an HW 77, last tuned in 1988 by venom, it's still doing 11.3 consistently over the chrono and I leave it cocked for sometimes hours when hunting. Quote Link to post
Soop 1
Picked up a TX200 and scope today from one of the advertisements in the classified section of THL! Now just to find a permission to shoot on! Don't suppose anyone owns any land around London full of dem pesky wabbits? I'm happy to be interviewed spanish inquisition style in order for the level of my responsibility and respect of your land to be ascertained. Quote Link to post
secretagentmole 1,701
Hey before you go mad on the bunnies, do a lot of paper target shooting to make sure you know where you are shooting! Quote Link to post
Soop 1
yup, gonna go to a place with a big garden to practice when I next get a chance. Any reccomendations for household/ easy/cheap to obtain items I can use for a backstop for my targets? Quote Link to post
gurtwurz 792
Yep,an 18"x12" patio slab. Bang in 2 stakes in to the ground, goalpost style and lean the slab against them then bang two more stakes in front to hold it in place. If you want a totally risk free backstop, then put two 12" slabs in front to form sides and another 18"x12" to make a roof as such, so you've basically got an open box that you can put a target in and shoot to your hearts content with pretty much no chance of a ricochet or possibility of a pellet punching through. You can use old scaffold planks too, just cut them to size and do a double layer at the back just to be sure. I prefer slabs personally cos pellets just flatten against them. cheers, wurz Quote Link to post
