Alli 923
ANY TERRIER THATS OUT OF GOOD STUFF, IF YOU ONLY WANT IT FOR THE GUN I WOULD TRY AND GET ONE THATS A BIT ON THE LARGE SIDE SO IT CANT EARTH ITS SELF SO EASLY. HAPPY HUNTING. Quote Link to post
dee mac 579
buy a pointer proven over time for what you want plus a terrier along side a hawk could end in disaster no matter how well socailised there s always a chance the red mist could decend and then alls thats left is feathers imo 1 Quote Link to post
Big bald beautiful 1,231
I have seen a first cross collie greyhound work with a Harris , so why not a terrier. Quote Link to post
BlackDog1 134
my dad used to work a bedlington x along side the hawks and she was great, had an excellent nose on her. We used to take her out flushing for the lurchers aswel, many a time she caught pheasents but she never once whent for the hawks. She's 14 now but worked up untill the age of 12. Quote Link to post

Moorman 1 1,395
buy a pointer proven over time for what you want plus a terrier along side a hawk could end in disaster no matter how well socailised there s always a chance the red mist could decend and then alls thats left is feathers imo As dee mac says will end in tears due to the terriers nature.I had a mate that used a russell for years and I always warned him but he said they are brought up together etc etc, then one day hawk nailed rabbit, terrier grabbed rabbit, hawk footed terrier then she retaliated and took back talon off hawk, hawk then rendered useless. As dee mac says use a gundog tried and tested over many years dog for job. I have used pointers and spaniels with great results, depends what type of hawk your flying. Quote Link to post
charlie caller 3,654
russel x terriers seem to do the job Thats what I was kind of thinking,I have freinds who use terriers for flushing for hawks, and they never have a problem, however,I do take on board the advice from people, who say it is a bad idea, will have to think hard about this one,as I dont really want to go down the gundog route, thanks for your input though lads. wirral countryman 2,110
I use a plummer but I have had a few accidents, the female I flew 2yrs back would nail the dog if the bunny got to ground, its very difficult to separate the 2 without getting pierced or bitten,I have an 18month old bitch I have brought up with a male this time for marking and bushing that seems to understand the game but its the hawk that will take the hump sooner or later,if I was just hawking then I would use a pointer or cocker, bigger dog, less hassle with the bird,WM 2 Quote Link to post
