dogs-n-natives 1,182
I think over these rough as feck mountains, the more deerhound the better! The rabbits are huge up here too! I am planning on putting my 1/4 deerhound to a full bred in November, so 5/8th deerhound, should suit me spot on. Ive looked into a few options for the stud, I am drawn to the knights errant x doxhope jisteen bred dog, but not set in stone yet. DnN Quote Link to post

dogs-n-natives 1,182
Chilled out at home, tuned in in the field... thats my experience of the good ones anyway. Too many folk prepared to wait for ever nursing a shit dog along in case it throws the towel in, yes the big ones need that bit more time to mature, but the crosses should be firing on all four ciylinders by 12 months or they might as well go in a hole in my opinion. Too much of a 'label' going about, being late starters, and too sensitive. Cull the shit, and get some decent blood in your kennels. Quote Link to post

What i find with Deerhoundy lurchers, especially dogs that get over the 27" mark is at 12 months they are big pups and have not yet grown into their bulk and physique,at 12 months its a long way off becoming the finished article,a pup that some would put in an hole at that age with another season on its back will make for a more than useful mutt, fact. They are a type of lurcher that best suits a more experienced and patient of owner,or a youngster with more nous than some of the so called experienced lads about. 3 Quote Link to post
DeerhoundLurcherMan 997
I agree morton, my lad was not half the dog at 12 months as he is now at 3. They look the part and are plenty fast enough at 12 months but its not all there yet. I had read allot about the deerhound cross having a particular disliking for charlies but hadn't seen anything in my "pup" to support this. Until it clicked, at about 2.. Deerhoundys entered in the right manner have a way of dealing with charlie boy that some would wish for. 4 Quote Link to post
