Everyone swears by the bulldog rabbiting spade & I have to say there praise is rightly justified....bulldog were one of the few manufacturers of mod equipment and as far as small shovels go you won't get much better than the 58 pattern infantry spade.., bulldog by manufacture with a price tag to suit most pockets..., they also produced larger round mouth spades that are superb......the military bulldogs are available in most local army and navy stores as well as online..., costing less than a tenner there a worthwhile purchase.......Atb

Am going to becketts in norwich when they open as sure they had some £15 quid if i remember thats a steal at that money

iv just baught myself 2 spades tonight off a guy not far away from my house , he had them advertised on preloved website , got a good deal from him for the pair ... not sure on what it is but the bigger spade has a rounded off blade goin to a point and a good angle to shovel aswell , the second spade is a small light weight one about 2.5ft , just need to put an over sholder strap onto it then im

away ... all in £15 which i thaught was spot on

also he is a time served ferreter and not just a builder with a few spades haha

i agree about the rabbiting spade, only good for shallow spot, if its a deep un, ye be aswell using a tea spoon

 

 

i use this round mouthed bulldog, it aint 1 a the massive uns, an does the job well, even on deeper digs, nice angle on the head aswell

 

got me lad 1 a them mini roundmouths by spear an jackson off fleabay for crimbo, itll do him for messing about whilst out an if i know im on shallow places an he aint there, then ill borrow it

sometimes i dont mind taking a full length shovel, prefer it to small 1 as you can use it as a walking stick up the fcuking hill
