Hard Days Graft For 10...

Thought its about time I put my first report up, so here goes!

Went out on the 27th with ferreter93 off here,my usual hunting buddy and tried a place we'd not been for a few weeks but which usually holds a few.(land rotation is a must around here!). The usual suspects where all loaded up, my Deerhound cross Lola, John's two Russels, Jill and Yazz and four ferrets in the box inc a couple of young uns which aint done that much yet, but as there are a few small sett's we thought we'd bring them along and give them a try.

We got down there for about 9 am, got the gear and mutts out and set off.

The day started off slowly with only a couple of coney accounted for by 12 and we thought it was going to be one of them days, but we cracked on and moved onto some sandy setts on another piece of ground.

The dogs where working hard as usual but with little reward before coming accross a nice 15-20 holer on a bank side which all the dogs marked well. I started netting up while John tied up the terriers and then it was in with the ferrets. We chucked the older one's in this as it was a fair size and after a few silent minutes we got a bolt which lola pinned in the net. That was dispatched and again we waited. Then bolt number two with John's old jill right up its ass. Then the action died off and the ferrets showed.

After that it was fairly steady, we just kept picking up singles and doubles from smallish little setts which we'd never have found without the dogs. John's young Russel bitch Yazz had a blinder of a day and seemed to step it up a notch( seems as though the penny dropped) and Jill was as steady as always and marking and hunting up well. No real good runs for the Lola but she certainly played her part pinning a few in the nets and hunting up, they really worked well as a pack.

The young ferrets also done well, shifting half a dozen between them and with no digs to mention...

We called it a day in the late afternoon with 10 in the bag (which is a decent number round these parts believe me).

All in all a cracking day out!

I'll remember to take the camera out next time!

Aye, I'm not complaining lads.

As I said, thats a decent bag aound these parts this year. Some permission is just dead this year compared to past years, but I'm trying to just rotate the land we do so as not to totally destroy places.

Seem's this is the case up and down the country though.

I'll definately be stopping earlier than usual next year and give them a good break.
