stroller 341
Ive been using shavings for bedding the bottom of my cages since Adam was a lad but since starting my new job part of which is an equine centre i noticed the stable staff use a small chip wood called easi bed for the bottom of the stalls. Its £6 for a big bale and is very absorbent which is important when i have 5 ferrets in the one big 6'x6'x2' multi tier cage. Although bulkier to dispose of it will be the bedding of choice from now on. normally i compost my used bedding in amongst garden waste then i use the rotted down stuff along my hedgerows i would never put rotted carnivore compost onto a veg patch or flower bed. im not sure if it would put harmful parasites into the soil but i couldnt in all faith eat my sunday veg knowing that ferret shite had helped them grow :0) Quote Link to post

stroller 341
yes thats it ive found its bulk holds the moisture better confining it to the corner better Quote Link to post
digger71 7
I could be wrong lads, but i find the finer sawdust more absorbent in the litter tray. Quote Link to post
stroller 341
i have tried all ways but i cant get my ferrets to use a litter tray, i even got a corner one but they bulldoze them upside down, shite in the other corner, empty the shavings out Quote Link to post

joe14 98
You need a large tray, buy 2, screw one down and pop the other one inside it I use shavings in the trays (horse stuff thats dust extracted, i used to get shavings for free but they were dusty as hell and made me sneeze never mind the ferrets. For bedding I use blankets, bang them in the washer every week or so, they love em, saves me spending on straw etc. (but rinse washer out after LOL, one mistake i made once ) Edited December 31, 2012 by joe14 Quote Link to post
