sykesy 0
Always used them on our track dogs fantastic bit of kit to have we would use it for about 30 mins before we set off to the track and if the dog had a hard race over night when we got back this seems to work as we ran a black dog for six years without many problems . Some of the dogs brought straight from the kennels of others would look tight on the track the old black dog always looked relaxed with plenty of muscle tone so would deffenatly use one or recommend one . Country Joe 1,411
Always thought of having one, but I am bit skeptical, Especially at £350 a pop new. as sandymere pointed out a lot believe in copper bracelets for rheumatism where others think the are useless, I was a male nurse in NHS for 40 years, and for pain we would use a Tens machine, some said it helped, but as many said it did not work, also i remember four Nurses having hypnotherapy to stop smoking, one ended up stopping, the other three didn't. sandymere 8,263
At times I feel I know how Sisyphus felt ! Bearing in mind all the research that goes into wound/bone healing and the new machines and treatments appearing all the time to speed healing and so clear beds sooner and yet no magnetic boxes. Indeed I bet Country joe that in all that time working as a nurse you never saw any magnetic boxes on the wards lol. I expect its those nasty doctors and nurses holding back the good stuff for themselves, after all a greyhound vet recommends it after all he knows more than all the specialist orthopaedic consultants throughout the medical and veterinary world, doesn't he? On a more sensible note, this has been well investigated as a potential treatment with a number of decent studies comparing magnets to placebo etc and alas it fails to show a true therapeutic effect with the sort of magnetic fields produced by these contraptions.. http://www.scienceba...-for-arthritis/ http://www.scienceba...and-blood-flow/ As I've said before a quiet area to recuperate and relax, a crate is ideal as it give a secure quiet feeling, will likely aid recovery but the magnets are plain silly. If the dog gets better its because it was going to get better with or without the magnets, we should credit the natural healing process along with healthy dogs and sensible rest and recuperation rather than magic. Alas once you have put your self on the line and said something like a magic box is good it's then difficult to climb down, this is known as Cognitive dissonance. Good link to why people believe in magic boxes aliens and such like https://sites.google.../how-convenient Edited December 31, 2012 by sandymere
Country Joe 1,411
Sandy, you are right, never seen one, you would think, if they are the bees knees, and work on dogs, then they would have them for humans, im sure the high heed yins with the NHS, will have looked at magnets, and there must be good reasons, they dont use them.
