walshie 2,804
While I've got my typing hat on, I'd like to discuss something else that has got on my wick recently. There has been mention of members welcoming new members as if that's a bad thing to do and talk of us only doing it to increase our post count. I can't speak for other members or their reasons for doing so, but my reasons for doing it are: 1: It is hard enough to keep new members on here with all the slagging matches they are likely to get involved in, so a few welcomes might make them more likely to appreciate THL for what it CAN be: A source of information and banter. 2: I was raised to be polite. If someone walks into somewhere I'm at and says a general hello to everyone, I'll say hello back. I won't just sit there and ignore them. For the people who assume we are polite in order to increase our post count, I personally couldn't care less about it, because if I reached 10 million, would everyone be in awe? No, so that's not why I do it. To get round this "problem" of feeling ashamed to be polite, why doesn't THL do one of these three things. Either reset my post count to zero every month, make it that replies in the new members section don't add to existing post counts, or just quit moaning about it? Thank you. Malt 379
I used to welcome all new members for a period after I joined but I got bored after a while! I only comment on the odd one these days. Can't see the problem with it myself, it costs nothing to be polite!

JohnGalway 1,043
Never saw the point of a new member section myself. That's nothing against new members, just jump right in.

Well you Irish folk aren't generally backward about being forward in any case! ...or is it not forward about being backward, I get confused?
