pinguu 169
I think it only right to pass on info, I'm genuinly heart broken he was a lovely dog and I wouldn't want anyone or their dog to suffer as we have you feel helpless for them I just held him so he knew he wasn't alone. Carraghs Gem 1,675
I know this is a sad topic for you but is this disease genetic or could it be contagious? Wikipedia doesnt provide an answer ??? Quote Link to post
pinguu 169
It's not contagious nor is it proven genetic but the vet said if he pulled through its best not to stud him as he may pass on a faulty gene. It is classed as an auto immune disease. 1 Quote Link to post
Chunky11 150
I have a 3 year old lurcher out of our own bitch, he was 1 of a litter of 8 & had strangles at about 5 wks of age. All the other pups were fine but he couldn't have his jabs or go out until he was 6 months of age because strangles affects the immune system. He never caught up with the other pups in size & still occasionally suffers with runny eyes & the hair never grew back around his nose. He is now out working but it has taken him a lot longer to get to this stage than any of the other pups. Quote Link to post

I think people should be aware because it causes so much pain and suffering as you said it affects the rest of the dogs life. if I'd have known maybe my post would be a little cheery. I know now but it's been a hard lesson ill be more thorough when picking a pup next time. Quote Link to post
AirgunGuy 362
Sorry you learned about this the hard way. Never came across this so thanks for the heads up Quote Link to post
pinguu 169
I made the breeder aware of the condition and that the pup died as I don't know if any other pups were effected but I have heard nothing back from him since I text to say the pup died. Quote Link to post
Carraghs Gem 1,675
A c**ts trick... The breeder should refund your money, as for the pup i know you got attached to it but it is probably just as well it did die as it would likely never be healthy... If it was a pet thats one thing but it would quite likely be useless as a worker. i wish you all the best with your next pup. Quote Link to post
coldweld 65
Had a cocker with that years ago, but she was fine. Sorry you lost your pup ! ATB Quote Link to post

pinguu 169
My wife has tried contacting the breeder with no response and we have also got a report from the vet to show him. She has asked politely for a refund but he isn't responding. Quote Link to post
