hi all since the ban in 2005 does anyone no if there as been an increase in the hare population as the gov and people were saying that it was the poachers and coursers that were killing them all

i bet more get shot now the dog men aint paying for the coursing rights!!! simple fact is dogs reduce old,weak or ill, guns kill whatever is in the sights..........

The GWCT will probably have the statistics. No good us lot giving our opinion, it's hardly scientific.

 

Besides, it all sort of assumes all dog lads are good boys and behave doesn't it?

Yeah I loved running my half cross bull greyhound in the heat and crops lol I meant hare coursing was kind of natural selection obviously 100% fit and healthy hares got caught, but not as many on a driven shoot!! Thinking about it tho on the flip side a lot of shoots/farms used to shoot hares to keep dog men off, I wonder if the ban did anything to change that???

It's basically a wind down after the shooting season for the beaters, keepers, farmers and few game shots that don't want the season to end. It's a job that arguably needs doing and is one of the perks for those that enjoy that sort of thing. Often the money from the game dealers is donated to a local charity and the day may be finished with a pigeon roost shoot.
