walshie 2,804
As stated recently, I'm in the market for a Tikka T3 Lite in .223. My question was whether the 1:12 twist rate or was 1:8 better. General opinion was 1:8 as it is better for heavier bullets. Turns out the 1:8 is very hard to find, especially in left handed. I am told the 1:12 is good for bullet weights of up to 55 grn. This is going to be primarily a fox gun, so my new question is: Is 55 grn any good for fox or should i just keep looking for a 1:8 gun? Thanks. Quote Link to post

zx10mike 137
1 in 8 is better for long range and deer but 1 in 12 will be great out to 300 ish and flatter shooting and more than enough for fox 1 Quote Link to post

JohnGalway 1,043
You'll be fine with 1:12, that's what my Remington is and I've killed them at 300 with 40 grain bullets. It's a fair way out. Edited December 28, 2012 by JohnGalway 1 Quote Link to post
