I'd agree Elm , though I'd also BRANCH out and say maybe Beech , but someone will TWIG exactly what it is !

Before anyone will get the answer you need to SYC-A-MORE clearer picture. Do you have any ALDER ones ?? I'll be ASH-tonished if YEW find out with that picture. TBH i'm BAMBOO-zeld by it all.

Been out chopping firewood. Came across massive tree tgat had fell down in woods, so we went in with the landrover & a trailer.

 

Its green bark, amd seems quite a dry wood. I cut a stump about 12inch in diameter. For a 'chopping block' amd the axe just bounces off it. The smaller pieces, I can split no bother

He could be, but sycamore does seem to be a very poplar answer :)
