George Kinloch 16
Just got another Jill and my two Hobs are fine with her but my other Jill seems to savage her neck really aggressively. So i have to remove my older jill. How do I stop her from doing this? 1 Quote Link to post
muddy210 34
sounds like shes mothering her or being a bit territorial. try and get them seperated when you cannot be with them introduce them slowly. this should work but sometimes they will not mix but it thats not often Quote Link to post
Country Joe 1,411
Wish you well, i have two Jills, one a wee cracker from Netrigger strain, but she hates my other Jill with a vengeance. Both are cracken workers, but i have tried everything to couple them up, without success. tried them together for a month, but the wee Poly, who is the more aggresive, took over the nesting box, and the other jill slept in the far corner, and they kept out each others way, but if they met, there would be a fight, tried feeding them a wee bit warm milk with an egg, which they ate together, and when finished the fighting would start. same with rabbit. even tried putting ferettone on their necks, and noticed them licking it off each other, but the next day, i could hear them fighting. Someone suggested putting them in a single box, and let them sort it out, they fought for one hour. I now have gave up, the Polly Jill stays in the hutch with the vasectomied Hob, and the other Jill is in a hutch on her own. I have ferreted them on there own, as i said they are two really good workers, both will work deep warrens. dont know what the two would be like ferreting a warren together, would they get on with the job, or if meeting in the bury, would they fight. Will have to try them together, and see what happens. What do you lads think, would they work together? In all my years of keeping Ferts, ive been lucky, they have always got on, first time I have come up against this problem. hour. Quote Link to post
stinkers 102
Agreed with above.......i introduced a new fert to 7 i had at one time, all were fine bar one and took a little bit of monitoring but both got on great after a couple of weeks. Quote Link to post
George Kinloch 16
Thanks for the advice. I have deprecated the hutch so they can see each other but can't get to each other. Gunna try the egg and warm milk trick I think. When my older Jill goes for the other one I get her by the scruff and put her in the ferret box for abit. Then keep doing it. So hopefully over time they will get used to each other. Poor pokey doesn't seem to stand up for herself. I heard u can put bitter apple spray in their necks so they don't bite eachother. What do u think? Quote Link to post
The one 8,482
Are they no trying to settle there rank ? if you keep seperating them it will just go on longer Quote Link to post

George Kinloch 16
I do understand the rank thing. But I'm worried my Jill will cause some damage as she is drawing blood. Quote Link to post
George Kinloch 16
Cat lactose reduced milk. Quote Link to post
Country Joe 1,411
ferrets are lactose intolerant buddy correct, but when I tried a little warm milk and egg, it was just a one off, to try and get them drinking out the one bowl. It is correct about milk, but just one small bowl between two, once only.Should be okay, but not to give regular. Quote Link to post
