terryd 8,425
Our cocker is the perfect house dog with the mrs. He is show bred though but a right pain in the ass in the field but that is my fault not his. He also has a lot of hunting instinct despite the show bred part
J.DOG 1,355
Yeah they make great pets and if you take it out with lurchers they make brill bushing dogs just get a working bred one Thanks pal. That's the kind of answer I was hoping for. I know they are hyper and 100 mile an hour out in the field but are they steady around the house? Cheers Gaz Yep they can be full on but if walked and let them use their nose and do what's natural and they are easy to own , my uncle used them to flush to lurchers loverly wee dog , great in the house but used to be kenneld now and then aslong as they ain't left to sit around day in day out they are nice wee dogs Atb
Chid 6,537
.I like my working dogs to be part of the family too. yes but theres a big differance in a working dog being part of the family and a family dog being a worker ..
whippet 99 2,613
Thanks pal. That's the kind of answer I was hoping for. I know they are hyper and 100 mile an hour out in the field but are they steady around the house? Cheers Gaz They are/were on the list. I've had a couple of terriers and my dads had a few and all have had the same crazy wired to the moon temperament. Are beddys similar? a working bred spaniel not given enough work will be ten times worse than any terrier imo id get her a wee pot licker and keep working dogs for working exactly my thought ,............you will soon get pissed off, with all the jumping and bumping ............it will drive you mad they need alot of work
northern lad 2,292
How about a Border Terrier Gaz,lot less gassy than other terriers imo, quiet, coat easy to manage, make good bushing dogs too....just to add,had a cocker years ago,it was the most destructive animal Ive ever owned, left alone for two minutes it would trash a room, once bored of the furniture it would dig holes through the plaster to the brick Edited December 26, 2012 by northern lad
Tiny 7 1,694
Get her a little terrier type for her self. A little yapper that makes her feel safe while your lamping....

Carraghs Gem 1,675
How about a miniature shnauzer... Not as embarrassing on the end of a lead or as full on as a terrier although it wouldnt be much use in the field id expect.

They are quick, intelligent, highly maneuverable and a source of perpetual energy, they are also soppy as hell, mine has just crashed against me for 5 minutes kip! neems 2,406
I'd just get a small mongrel maybe even from a rescue, those pure bred toy dogs are walking vet bills.
Gaz_1989 9,539
Thanks for all the input folks. Whippet is looking favourite if I'm honest. Or maybe a beddy/whip. I'm not walking and feeding a dog I can't make use of in the field. I will just use it daytime and resist the temptation of taking it lamping. Cheers Gaz
tsteve9999 456
A mate of mine bought a cocker pup as a pet years ago that was from show lines that went back generations, From three months old that little dog would fly into cover and put up everything there was in the area, I was amazed at how good it was.
