2nd dog as a pet...

Recommended Posts

My Missus wants us to get a 2nd dog to keep as a pet. We used to have a little Jack Russell that would come in the house and keep her company when I was out lamping and whatever but we lost her a few months back.

She wanted one of them Bichon Frise or Pommeranian, the little fluffy type which I don't really class as dogs

Then she mentioned a whippet, which obviously is a much better idea...

However if I was to use it as a second running dog when my bitch was laid up or in season then it would be WW3 if it was to get hurt or killed.

Sooo I've suggested a little cocker and she likes them too.

It would be her house pet and no risk of me getting tempted and taking it lamping and then it would come in handy for flushing out game in the daytime when I "take them for a walk :whistling:

So what do people reckon? Good idea?

I can't see the point in having a whippet, I shoot alot of big game which my lurcher retrieves and it's too much to ask of a whippet. I'm getting a second lurcher next year in any case and don't have the work for 3 running dogs.

Yeah they make great pets and if you take it out with lurchers they make brill bushing dogs just get a working bred one

Thanks pal. That's the kind of answer I was hoping for.

I know they are hyper and 100 mile an hour out in the field but are they steady around the house?

Cheers

Ok thanks. Whatever she gets I will have to walk, feed, look after so it might aswell be something I can benefit from.

I like my working dogs to be part of the family too.
