hillbilly boy 109
Ok guys I'm looking to get a new terrier next year for bushing and I'm thinking of getting a bedlington I'm after some honest opinions from the lads on her that work them looking for advice on everything form the working ability to the temperament as my knowledge of the breed is pretty limited. I've done the searches on here before someone says that lol. The dog is just gonna be used for above ground as where I am we don't have earth work for them looking forward to the responses Quote Link to post
Country Joe 1,411
Having had both, if you really want a Bedlington then go for it, theres Lads on the Working Bedlington Forum with good Dogs, but if Rabbits, or Rats is your game, then I would consider a Bedlington X Whippet, a good un should work heavy cover will catch Rabbits on the run. and although not the ultimate lamping Dog, you can still take rabbits on the lamp. hillbilly boy 109
Cheers yeah I've always had the beddie whippet cross and they are great dogs but main problem was they spend as much time in the bush as the terrier I've got a pure whippet now and was after a terrier to bush while she waits on the outside Quote Link to post
BS40liam 203
If its bushing your after then I expect going down the kc route is probably better but the price tags on em are ridiculous! Good luck on finding a pup mate Quote Link to post
hillbilly boy 109
Not bothered about kc lines to be honest but happy to pay the right price for the right dog Quote Link to post
darbo 4,776
None kc. very good nose will hunt up all day. very good marking dog for ferreting nearly 6 years old. took feather on occasion catches in cover. stubborn to train as a young dog. just plenty of patience needed. temperament spot on no trouble with stock great with people kids and other dogs. good luck with your search if you decide to go ahead. 3 Quote Link to post

Rory4 267
I would say a beddy whippet be the best option or a spaniel x terrier! Beddys are great but wouldn't get one if after just a busher ! Quote Link to post

Beddys are great but wouldn't get one if after just a busher ! theres plenty of lads use beddys for bushing an ferreting....on the bedlington forum theres more used for this than earthwork, just becuase you wouldnt use one as a busher doesnt mean others cant. Rory4 267
I dint say he can't I said I wouldn't! Mine bushes as good as I've seen but she's not working to flush to lurchers she's working to catch anything and everything herself she hunts! If your out bushing for a few rabbits to the Lurcher and they put something else up and disappear for a hour or drop to ground as they are a terrier it's no fun! A beddy whippet will catch a lot more and can lamp! A spaniel x will bush hard and work close and work as a team and stop when told! Quote Link to post
darbo 4,776
Mine works close and stops when told. lots of different breeds of terrier can be headstrong.put in the work early doors.mine is used mainly as a ferreting dog and a dog 3 fields away would be of no use to me.
