got a small square lamp with a protective cover and built in, on switch and cigar lighter plug for £2 from a charity shop and had it with a burglar alarm battery in a old 58 webbing army pouch.still got the light in the shed.also had a american style light years ago. that had a element instead of a bulb, pretty bright but i was worried i wouldnt get spares so flogged it.

Used to use a MINI head lamp with a wooden handle and a motor bike battery, got through a load of coats from the acid.

In all my time Ive never bought a lamp, Ive always made my own. About 20 years ago I used a Lucas square 8, these have a black bulb protector that shrouds the bulb, the lbeam was better with the glass lense removed. I used these for years, as I worked as a mechanic on the buses, and we had loads of them. What a beam it had, and we killed thousands of rabbits using them....
