kevin-Day 9
I believe that there are still a few, old style, Droving type jukels around....... Yes the kelpie was a drovers dog before it was cross to a dingoe some can be sheep killers from what I have read up on them, not for me! I have been told they are very head strong hard work for lamping. Edited December 29, 2012 by kevin-Day Quote Link to post
Phil Lloyd 10,738
Kelpies are selectively bred, specialist, sheep herders,..they are masters of their craft,.even more so, in their country of origin... Like most other pastoral workers, they are usually, good honest dogs,.but,..so are many Border Collies... Quote Link to post

trenchfoot 4,243
Nice to here , this kelpie dog which hunted up while lamping could have just been down to the trainer flicking the light about for the next run which made the problem himself. Can the pricked ears be lost by out-crossing ! One minute you are concerned about good feet which matter, next your worried about its lugs which don't! why dont you give Jeff Burrel a ring you'll get on famously 3 Quote Link to post
FUJI 17,156
yeah £650 for original droving dog and at the end of the day they look to be a old line of Collie lurcher also there not KC doys yet!! So £120 up round hay on wye sounds like you could be on the right track.! LOL Original my arse ..does the woman who owns these get out and work them in any way? What exactly does she mean when saying about hunting instinct?..honestly,no disrespect to you fella but you are either very naiive or easily brainwashed? ..holy shit there's enough rubbish around without adding to it...why oh why look for something when we already have proven cur types with the Beardie,Border,Kelpie etc?...if it ain't broke then don't fecking fix it lol.. Pricked, lugs, polka dot spots and every other cur dog trait...i don't give a shit what it looks like 7 Quote Link to post
kevin-Day 9
It looks like a lurcher which any keeper or old bill would spot from a mile away! Times are changing take a good long look at the Old type Drovers Colie what comes to mind? Collie lurcher? or Collie? Edited December 30, 2012 by kevin-Day 1 Quote Link to post
skycat 6,173
Funny how wild canines, and foxes all have prick ears: you'd have thought they'd have died out by now or developed flop ears if grass seeds got into prick ears more than flopped ears Quote Link to post
Mixed Bag 603
sounds like a load a guff to me 1 Quote Link to post

boyo 1,398
cant see why it would it be any better than a collie x to be honest but could be a usefull x Yes thats why I asked on here if anyone had one or had seen lurcher crossed with one! The more you look at them and think about drovers dogs, men which were on the road for weeks at a time, this dog fitted the bill for them and must have been a very good hunter, there is only one way to find out for shore and thats to breed 1 litter of lurchers if this uk breeder with these 3 stud dogs will let use! I have sent her a email, sending a tex in a bit, I have a good bitch here just need the right dog. not trying to be funny mate but by breeding one litter of lurchers how is that going to tell you if they are any good give the best bred dogs in the country to the wrong person and they will end up useless to average . and cannot agree that border and beardie crosses give you bad feet ,have you been around lurchers very long . 3 Quote Link to post
trenchfoot 4,243
I would rather have an ugly bird that put out, than a high maintenance one who needed caviar for a fumble http://i211.photobuc...photo1005-1.jpg my old bitch, bred on collie x lines. never won a show. put a lot of game to bed. very cloddy, grafted hard. Barely injured, and never tired. No written pedigree. Not even a mention on Wikipedia If she had ever come in season then I could have sold her pups 3 times over. Give me a keeper over a seller anyday Edited December 28, 2012 by trenchfoot 4 Quote Link to post
FUJI 17,156
Smart bitch that Trenchfoot..I like that type, real rugged and hardy looking..f**k shows they are ok for a bit of banter and nowt else..as for speed well yes they need to be fast enough to catch but she obviously was..I'd rather have a clever, always in the right place, steady obedient mutt to heel rather than a fecking thick as pig shit, headless runabout speed machine any day lol..faster they go faster they burn out SIMPLES..remember the hare and the tortoise story from your school days? Yes had lurchers and ferrets for years, I use to take the kids ferreting back in my late 20`s great fun,the kids and the dogs loved it, just got 2 young lurchers now and a 4 year old, but as time moves on and I now have grand children to keep happy,I dont really get the time just a bit of mooching with the dogs is all I need plus the shows are a nice day out for the family weather permitting!
