EnglishBulldog 14
Ok i was wondering what would be the best cross for solely lamping rabbits. Quote Link to post
jamesmc 582
collie/grey/whip 1 Quote Link to post
huntingladjohn 14
iv got a saluki/grey/whippet he seems to do the job well enough great all rounder Quote Link to post
BrianSteven72 369
most xs can catch rabbits , the most important thing i think is to get it fit and to show it plenty of rabbits the more you show it the better it will get , yes some xs will be better than others but they will all do it, for me something like colliewhippet x grey would do nicely 2 Quote Link to post
Tiny 7 1,694
If its only rabbits. Id get a little 22/23'' collie cur type lurcher/lurcher type Out of parents that had plenty of early pace and good mouths on them and done it season in season out for a good few yr Quote Link to post
trigger2 3,211
as has allready been said most crosses will catch rabbits on the lamp. the ground you hunt on will sometimes play a part in which dog is best suited. some places you need a fast dog other places steady plodders will do just fine. ruby16 80
iv got two saluki/whippet x whippet/grey, they are both brilliant all rounders but definitely excel on rabbits. Quote Link to post
Floyd17586 454
Imo abeddy whippet x or saluki x or tbh as has been said any lurcher will excell in lamping once it has been trained and handled right Quote Link to post
bird 10,014
colliexgrey x saluki x grey, nice bitch about 24in would run all night in the lamp, and be ok in the day for rabbits Quote Link to post
toby63 1,236
a whippet x Quote Link to post
gnipper 6,650
A dog that you like the look and temperament of, obviously not a 3/4 bull 1/4 grey or something heavy like that but as long as its reasonably quick it will catch rabbits. It's all well and good people suggesting different crosses for you but if their suggest big smooth dogs and you like little rough ones or vice versa you'd never be entirely happy with what you purchase, its you that's gotta look at it and care for it at the end of the day. 2 Quote Link to post
shaunpowell 130
For myself would be something mostly whippet mate, but as said depends what u like the look of,lol atb shaun Quote Link to post
Big bald beautiful 1,231
hourses for courses... depends on what land your running on, ive seen first cross collie greyhounds catch plenty on the fells and rough ground but couldnt get near my golf course rabbits Quote Link to post
EnglishBulldog 14
The land i run on would be mainly flat open land. If this help. Also thank for all the suggestions so far lads Quote Link to post
AirgunGuy 362
If you're running the dog on mostly open fields with short grass then the rabbits will go fcuk on that type of ground. I'm by no means a expert but i would say that you will need something with a burst of speed to put a turn in quick and be able to turn quick itself so mostly Whippet with its burst of speed with a bit of Beddy for heart and drive....3/4 Whippet 1/4 Beddy or 1/2 Whippet, 1/4 Grew, 1/4 Beddy standing around 21"-23"tts Quote Link to post
