A letter from Afghanistan

Recommended Posts

I have just had a bluey (forces letter blue in colour) that the members on here may find interesting maybe even heartwarming as its directly from parcels funded by this forums members. Sorry for obvious reasons I cannot put any personal or unit details in this post, any serving or ex servicemen will fully understand this. I have copied it exactly only omitting names, places etc.

Hiya Guys, my name is Sergeant xxxxx xxxxxxxx and I am writing to thank you sincerely for the time and effort obviously put in by all concerned, we have just received a number of welfare boxes from you, they arrived by Merlin helicopter while we were out on the ground and were a real instant boost to all the guys when we got back in. The contents of these boxes were SPOT ON ! And soon disappeared, the Pot Noodles, Cheddars and Pringles went down particularly well, If you decide to send more which by the sounds of it you do, please do not change a single thing well maybe a few more instant orange flavoured chocolate drinks per box lol but thats all.

The letters you sent with each box are good to read and I know for a fact a few of the guys have put them away as keepsakes, we all particularly liked your logo. It is brilliant to know that people back home care enough to go to so much trouble for men they have never met in person or most likely never will. We have had a hard few weeks fighting since we arrived in xxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxx which is our home for the near future. We have had a number of heavy engagements with the local Taliban and have shoot n scoot contacts most days I will not bore you with the details. I can honestly say without bravado that the bad guys are keeping their distance now lol. This is my 3rd tour here so I knew what to expect but some of the guys are ghan virgins and its all been a bit of a culture shock to them. At least its getting cooler now the heat does take some getting used to certainly with the kit we carry on a typical patrol.

Cannot think of anything else worth saying at the moment but as I finish this letter the other guys in my tent are adding their thanks to. Its surprised all of us what a difference something silly like a decent cup of hot choc and a few packs of cheddars can make to morale after a long patrol.

You hoped in your letter it put a smile on our faces, well your boxes certainly did that big time so a massive THANKS AGAIN.

From all the lads in xxx xxxxx xxxxxxxx

I'll copy another letter sent to the other half of Treats 4 British Troops (Cliff) later.

That DVD and the shooting meets were worth every bit of time and effort everyone put in to them if this is the great results we are getting back in return.

God bless our service men and women  .

HEAR HEAR!!!

As with these gentlemen I wish to add what a positive message this is to read. Thank you Gary for sharing this. Let's redouble our efforts in the new year and make a real push for even more parcels for our front line soldiers in Afghanistan. God bless and protect every one of them.

So Hot Chocolate Orange drinks, Cheddars and Pringles are a good goer. Anything else they'd like Gary?

Flight home for Christmas leave by Crab Air not optional alas!

Merry Christmas to you Gary.

Simon.

I sent a parcel a few weeks ago. It wasn't much, just some sweets, crisps, sauces and so on. I'm sure they were appreciated, but I appreciate what the armed forces are doing for us a hell of a lot more than a few quids worth of sweets.

Merry Christmas to all our service men and women and a safe return for the ones who will be away for the festive period.

haribo and smoked sausages are a winner. some nice noodles and sauces. orange/mint hot chocolate sachets and that 'bombay mix' savoury mix.

the things you take for granted at home is whats the best gifts to send. doesnt have to be a top brand. B&M's will fill a box for about 7 quid

a nice letter to let us know who you are and most importantly a return address.

2 christmasses ago i didnt recieve my parcel off family but recieved one from an unknown sender who wasnt part of the organisation but kust have sent the parcel out off his own back knowing that it would make somebodys day.

that parcel made my christmas day
