Guest DALE_2
as me and a freind walked down the aisle of the kennels close to us , we discussed the increasing numbers of lurchers which are cropping up , around the north east area ect , i dont know what it is like other areas but its getting rather worrying , here are to which my freind likes , 1 is obviously a bull x , and the other looks like a deerhound x , ill post a pic of which one he decides to rehome , http://www.strayaction.com/detail.php?d=2&...w=24&id=396 http://www.strayaction.com/detail.php?d=2&...w=12&id=449 Dale Quote Link to post

Paul in North Lincs 15
I'm in Scunthorpe n - lincs .......................and ex racing greys and lurchers are all over the shop......... The ban caused alot.............. also there are loads of wankers out there that get interested then suddenly realise thats it much more fun drinking WKD outside the local Spar Shop & robbing cars on a nightime........... invariably they lose interest and can't be bothered to look after their dogs out of season so get shut in the summer months............................ then they go looking to by a dog in season thats already grafting...........we've all seen it before.........and the cycle continues................................. Its a sad reflection on society I know...... hope you Quote Link to post
martin 332
I'm afraid to say that a lot of them are caused by people(some on here and other forums)not being able to get the best out of there dog, and, think that it is easier to go on to the next one.I tackled someone on here(I think-if not smoochers)who said that he was on his seventh dog in two seasons, and, his answer was to mind my own f*****g business! As long as these f*****g Knobends are in the dog game then you will have spares in all of the kennels........RANT OVER! Guest Ditch_Shitter
I'm with ye on this one, Martin. I'd also like to add: Fact is, now I've stopped to tally up, I reckon I must've owned over a dozen Dogs in my life. That, to me ~ on the surface of it ~ is pretty f*cking bad. Dog lives an average of fifteen years. Twelve times fifteen years? Just out of curiosity, I just cracked open the calculater there. That's 180. Allowing that I was allowed to get my very own, first Dog at the age of sixteen? No. I'm not That f*cking old! So, let's break it down; Four of those Dogs are sleeping happily around me as I write. They're going No Where. That's eight. Illness took two of those eight from me. Six to account for. Well, three of those went to the vets and never came back. Ye'll just have to accept my word that I Don't have Dogs killed without there's an unequivical, inherrant risk in these Dogs staying around. A risk even I can't manage. And I manage some weird shit. Three more. Two were rank wastes of (my) space. A JR I picked up from a puppy peddler, when I was a kid and a Border Terrier I picked up from a puppy peddler when I was old enough to have known better yet still ignored the screaming protests of my own better judgement. Both those two swiftly departed to pet homes where the one's probably perfectly happy to this day. Other was a lifetime back. That should leave one, but I remember a couple more. Excuse me but I'm Really going back now. THE one was my little Bull x. One of the best Dogs I ever had and passed on to a good friend when my own situation made it impossible for me to keep any Dog. My mate gave that Dog more work than I could ever of dreamed of and turned my great little Dog into a Fantastic little Dog who threw him an even better son. My mate, Chris H. kept both those Dogs till he buried them of old age. For that alone he has my never ending Respect and gratitude. The others? My first JR was one. Much the same story. My own developing and constantly changing life meant we too had to part. I was in my mid teen's then. And there's ~ I think ~ a clue? Kids. People ask me what Dog to get their 13 / 14 / 15 / 16 year old kid and I whince. What a time to give a kid a fifteen year long contract! They'll be leaving home. Getting a job. Joining the dole queue. Falling in infatuation. Learning to drink too much. The whole shebang. How many can, let alone will, keep hold of a Dog during That storm of life? And yet isn't that Just the period when most people Will aquire a Dog and attempt to carve out their own identities with it? Be it the swaggering, wanna be 'Gangsta' chav with his back yard bred Bull 'n Terrier or the very sort we see banging up a few posts on here - before fading away again. When these wanna be 'Great Poachers' fade away, what becomes of that Bull X they just got off their mate down the road? Answers on the back of a postage stamp. Sorry. I don't Have any answers Quote Link to post
juckler123 707
Ive been around lurchers for a fair old time and had a mantle of dogs sometimes having as many as five on the go at once to allow for injurys etc i can honestly say if they left my charge they were either homed properley with a pet owner or they were pts. I stopped breeding as it was doing my head in watching pups go to folks with good intentions only to be sold on before they were even old enough to be able to do the job. Thankfully them days are long gone when you could make a decent living off of bunnys so now im a one dog man i will only get another as a back up when the young dogs fully trained in his case nearly two. Ive just turned down the offer of a very well bred pup for that reason and that reason alone. I would have thought its not as bad now as it was when the lurcher first gained popularity i honestly thought the ban would have made a difference. Where i live there was at least a dozen hardcore hunters and now theres just two of us so it looks like there might be light at the end of the tunnel for as the popularity waynes hopefully so will the amount of dogs ending up in a rescue. Cheers Juckler BY the way the second dog looks like a wheatonx Quote Link to post
COMPO 54
I would pick the second dog Sadly there are people who get hunting dogs and then lose interest and want to swap it for a PS3 too many dogs are bred and too many idiots buy them on a whim, feck about and fail the dog and then pass it on, sadly i dont think we will change anything , what worries me is how fashions with dogs change and folk want to keep up with the latest must have and get shut of there mutt to get the latest trend, i remember these trends with saluki crosses and now it seems to be bull crosses Quote Link to post
jultaylor1972 2
I popped in to my local dog rescue centre a few weeks back and really wish I hadn't I would say about 60% of the dogs were lurchers and the other 40% were staffies. It was all very upsetting and it just made me very angry I just dont understand some people at all. I like both the dogs in the pics above a good friend of mine has a rescue lurcher and its a top class hunting dog 'Bruce the wonder dog' Im sure those who know of him will agree what an excellent dog he is. Best of luck to your mate and good on him for getting one of the above Quote Link to post
