i saw that documentary sesku, was human planet with david attenbrough. i also saw a couple of years ago some bloke monitoring eagles in scotland, they had the cameras there and it tried to run a red deer off a cliff. the bloke said in 40 years he had never seen them do that. cheers

Wolves...(dogs) hunt naturally by running down the prey over distance. B's.O.P. Hunt more opportunistically with sudden surprise strikes. An eagle also has a lot of inertia to overcome once it's been grounded, especially if the wind is wrong. One isn't better than the other, just different imho.

Some good footage but don't be fooled the bad bit's will have been missed out.. :D ..they are powerfull bird's and i think they have the 3rd of 5th most powerful grip of the eagles but one on it's own would have a lot of trouble on it hand's if a fellow on horse back was not near by to kill the wolf ASAP..that one around the 2.18 min mark just goes to show what will happen with a proper sized adult dog wolf and i bet the end result ended in a injured or dead bird ..and 4 eagle's hanging of the wolf before it was killed by a fellow on horse back.. ..

Edited to add the natural prey of wild goldies is normaly something that does not bite back for a good reason.. :whistling:

very nice films thank you. once a big bird of prey like an eagle "stalls" in flight it needs a lot of energy and effort to get back into the air, and then to reach a decent cruising speed takes more effort and lost time. so if they time their strike wrong or the quarry dodges it just aint worth the effort to get after it again when it will have gained a lot of ground over the bird. and yes if an eagle gets in a mix-up with a wolf there is only one winner......10lb eagle or 100lb wolf?

I've had one on my fist many years ago..hard to explain the power in words. . .it was a fella local who still keeps birds these days.

When it flew over the woods it was amazing watching all the other birds in the vacinity scarper...He seemed to spend more time tracking it than seeing any action though.
