jam1e 12
Hi folks. I've bought a lamp for foxing and i'm very happy with it. The one below - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/120973442773?ru=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fsch%2Fi.html%3F_sacat%3D0%26_from%3DR40%26_nkw%3D120973442773%26_rdc%3D1 It has a 12 volt 2 pin bulb in it and is rated at "140 yards". Doesn't say what wattage it puts out... Anyhow, what i'd like to know is, if i were to change the bulb for a 24 volt bulb but with say the same wattage, would it be any brighter and/or give me any further usable distance? On another note i'm shocked at how much money companies are charging for batteries. Be it Li-ion or li-po. I'm a radio control model aeroplane flyer, (yes i know it's very sad.... ) however, i have around 25 li-po batteries from 7 volt up to 24 volt. I buy my batteries from www.hobbyking.com and although most of there stock is in china they now have a branch in the uk and one in europe. They supply some very good quality li-po and li-on batteries and chargers at under half the cost of the uk companies and thats with china postage costs! (even if caught be a few quid import tax) You need to be able to do basic soldering but bar that your quids in! Just thought i'd mention that to try and help someone save a few quid Quote Link to post
tote 854
The lamp in the link has a 400 metre beam not 140m, the 140mm is the diameter of the lamp head. If you're powering the lamp off a 12volt battery you'll need to use a 12 volt bulb so the answer to your question about bulbs will be no. Quote Link to post

That'll teach me not to post and watch the tv at the same time! In principal, would a 24 volt battery and bulb with the same watts as a 12 volt battery and bulb be any brighter and/or give me any further usable distance? Quote Link to post

dogvixen01 34
imho best lamp for distance and hand held is a lightforce blitz 240 ( 240mm head ) and second is a lightforce striker 170 ( 170 mm head ) if gun mounted a striker 170. the big difference with the bulb is a vertical element will usually give you a tighter beam as opposed to a horizontal element., and a zenon bulb wiil be brighter and clearer than a halogen.also another thing for distance is to fine tune the focussing.hope this helps. Thanks for the imput dogvixen01 Imho a good percentage of branded items (regardless of what they're for) are no different than the non branded or less popular brands. Granted thats not always the case. But alot of the time the only difference is quality control and/or after sales service. It's personal choice at the end of the day. It's the same as "buy cheap buy twice" Sometimes its right sometimes it's not. As spooky as it is the lightforce striker 170 is almost identical to my "Night Eye" lamp! Granted it reaches out further and if i'm honest the reflector looks alot better quality. But i'm not good enough to hit something at over 200 yards at night anyhow! But i could buy 3 1/2 of my lamps to one Striker 170. Thankfully my element is vertical. Cheers fellas Quote Link to post
jam1e 12
I've got myself into a pickle with my lipo batteries. Without detailing the boring details i'm after a dedicated 12 volt battery for my lamp now. I'm thinking of the one below. Could i have a few opinions please? (No not you dekers.....) If it's no good fellas could you tell me why and recommend an alternative? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/220895561659?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 Quote Link to post

I used one of those batteries with a lazerlight [50 watt bulb] a few years ago and used to be out for round about 3 hours before the battery went down. Quote Link to post

Cheers Bruce Cheers Bruce. I have alot of lipo batteries and i'm trying to make use of them rather than spend more money when i shouldn't need to. The batteries i used were 3 cell, 88 amp lithium polymer. I know each cell is rated at 3.7 but when fully charged they're just over 4 volts putting me in the 12 volt range needed for the lamp. My basic knowledge of lipos made me think that as at full max charge the 3 cell lipo hit 12 volts i could use it for the lamp. And secondly, as the lipo was rated at 88 amps it would stay at 12 volts for quite some time. However, as the lamps light went from bright white light to yellow light quite quickly, i presume my assumption was wrong. And infact the cells quickly dropped down to there rated 3.7 amps putting me down to 11.1 volts causing yellow light due to voltage drop. Does that sound about right to you then?? I have 4 cell, (14.8 volts) and 6 cell, (22.2 volts) lipos, but i can't find an adequate voltage regulator. Any ideas?? Quote Link to post
