If I could get my old cocker too mark he could play the trumpet for all I care

Alot of ferreting dogs yip and yap working rough land, never botherd me. MARKING HOLES, working cover ,holding netted rabbits, working with long nets, catching the escapees, being a usefull companion.

If i was in the same position it would make no difference.   If the dogs keen i would work him as often as i could.   He might quieten down a bit when is confidence is boosted   Then again he mi

It wont cause any hassle above ground and below ground. Poachers used to hate it for obvious reasons. The yappers will still catch rabbits for certain, and they may be the best dogs a person ever owned, every dog has faults, mine have a lot like myself.

Do people think that the yappers would catch the same if they stopped blowing there lungs out yapping whilst running, rather than shutting there vocal chords and using the in short supply oxygen to fuel their tiring muscles?

Just my thoughts, I know our dogs need every bit they of air they can get, rather than waste it shouting at a rabbit getting away. But thats just our shit dogs!

a dog that hunts heavy cover will give a yip when he's on his game because he cant get on terms with his quarry

so he may give a yip when he's no chance of catching a fleeing bunny

now a yip would'nt bother me but a full blown yapper would

That is a big difference Albert.

If you're talking ferreting then I wouldn't have thought it would be an issue, think of it in terms of a rabbit being underground, they will hear the vibrations from thuds on the ground much more than the noise of a yapping dog 20, 30, 40 yards from the warren. A heavy footed person stood on the warren itself will make the rabbits more wary than a yapper chasing a bunny away from the warren.

Bailey, forget that people label your dog as a yapper, if you have good days out with it that's all that matter. A lamper yapping might be a problem, I don't see why a ferreting dog yapping would cause any problems at all...as long as the yapping doesn't stop it catching obviously...and if it does, then just get some nets :D

I've seen a Loch Ness running dog! It was perfect! (Although it was not perfect to start with, and not perfect in the end!) But it did run about 7 years of its life without fault!
