Always respect your opinion Gnasher but imo Leonard didn't dominate Hagler, can't count how many times I've watched that fight and still can't decide who won,a good start and a classy finish from leonard but Hagler chased him and put the pressure on All the way. Read Leonard's book a wee while back, good read and hard too believe someone with so much natural talent was so unsure of himself going into certain fights. He says when him and Hagler got into the ring before the fight he would try abita psychological warfare so walked straight across the ring towards Hagler to see if he would budge, just before he got to marvellous he thought this guy ain't moving,I'm f****d,Hagler moved outta his way and he knew then he was well in with a chance. Some guys have more than just boxing ability,Leonard was one of them. I think Mayweather could box, with the protection afforded to modern fighters, with the best of them, the greatest defence the game has seen, lads that have copied his defensive style(Adrien Broner)are gonna dominate the game for the next few years. I also think Castillo was hard done by in the 1st fight, but Mayweather definatley won the 2nd which done him justice in my book.

Hello Danny its good to hear your views its a conversation i must of had 1000 times with 100 different people :D in other words its a subject you always come back to !.......Like yourself ive watched the fight a lot over the years as it was a match up that fascinated me......im not a judge but having scored the fight its clear Hagler gave Leonard the first 4 rounds by just following him round the ring and landing very few scoring blows.......Hagler also clearly lost the last 2 rounds when Leonard was virtually hitting him at will showboating etc at one point of the 12th he hit him with i think it was 15 unanswered punches................so that puts it as a draw at best for Hagler.........some of the middle rounds were close and if you give them an equal share it makes Leonard a convincing winner........i dont go a bundle on stats Danny but if you see the punch stats for the fight it proved Hagler threw around 200 more punches than Leonard but landed something like 50 less !.......It will always lean slightly towards personal preference thats the nature of scoring fights but for me Leonards work was far cleaner he was defensively far superior all Hagler really did was walk him down for 12 rounds i think he totally underestimated Leonards speed.....and if ever it proved how important a good corner is Hagler didnt have a plan b to go to.....yet Dundee probably had a plan b c and d for Leonard if needed :D

30 years ago......in the Welterweight division.........   Tommy Hearns.......Ray Leonard.......Roberto Duran........Wilfred Benitez.........Don Curry..........   I dont think he would of beat any

on the hagler fight, it was close, hagler never took a backward step but sugar landed fast 10 or 15 punches in a short barrage, self defence, ducking outside hagler at every chance he got, but still managed to look good, i remember the stick i took i our club back then saying sugar on points hehehe, does mayweather punch harder than sugar? gnasher16?

Wouldn't class Mayweather as a big puncher bracken but in fights like Gatti,Coralles,Marquez,he wore those guys down with the volume of punches he threw, and made good respected fighters look like they'd just got the call the night before,I hate to see him be overly defensive cause when he does come to fight he's as exciting as anyone. Guess he's disciplined when it comes to sticking to his tactics. I'd say between him and Leonard punch wise there's not a lot in it but Mayweather throws every punch with intent where in some fights Leonard could throw little point scoring flurries(<is this even a word,I'm not sure, but I know whata mean).:-).

I dont really know mate i doubt theres much in it.....for me a genuine big puncher can carry their punch up through the divisions like Hearns did he was knocking out middles and light heavies same as he was knocking out welterweights........I wouldnt swear to it but i dont think Mayweather has ever ko,d a light middle.....where Leonard i think did ko a few heavier guys.......i dont think punch power would of come into it anyway i just think Leonard would of known too much for Mayweather i think they are both very good at adapting to different styles and making the necessary adjustments during a fight......just Leonard could do those things a little better in my opinion......i think Leonard would of found a way to win but certainly would of been a fascinating fight eh mate.....who do you think would of come out on top ?

that link was empty tfm,,,, i think the reffs back then used to love a bit of a tear up they seem to let them get on with the fight a bit more than they do today and arnt as quick to stop the fight when some one gets tagged or only just makes the count when been on ther arse its a small bit like when they changed amature boxing from judging to a points system it promoted skillfull fast in and out type boxing rather than fighters and brawlers,, back to the pro i was onlie a kid so chuld be wrong but i think what happend in the watson ben fight had alot to do with how long the reffs whuld let it go on for

My bad, try again mate. I appreciate your point regarding refs, some are bit premature sometimes for sure. Perhaps better safe than sorry though ay.

cant have been watching same fight or if you was it was with leonard coloured glasses on... :) while eating dundee cake.. sorry joking aside.. its one of them fights that was staged to favour leonard.. same as the rubbish one he won to get 5 weights donny lalonde <he had to lost weight to come down to fight leonard ... while leonards record looks good he's got too many things in his favour... not saying he wasnt a great he just leaves a funny taste in my mouth.. and money rules ..oh he beat donny lalonde who had pins in his shoulder and had to make 168lbs from 175lbs i know you wont see it as i see it.. but hearns never didnt the easy way ,, nor duran or hagler.. golden boy leonard and mayweather very much alike.. i think mayweather is better than leonard.. but i still think mayweather will come unstuck ..

Sentiment plays no part in the way i view sport mate......the beauty of the Leonard/Hagler/Hearns/Duran era is nobody avoided each other it doesnt matter who your particular favorite was everything was there for all to see................................you state " same as the rubbish one he won to get 5 weights donny lalonde "..................if you remember right Leonard and Hearns were in a race to be the first 5 weight champion........Hearns won that race by nicking the light heavyweight title off our own Dennis Andries.....while i have nothing but admiration for Dennis he will be the first to admit he wasnt the greatest champion ever.......Leonard then did the same to Lalonde, who was probably a better light heavy than Dennis was so who had the harder task......when big names like Leonard/Hearns want your title you make the fight regardless.... Lalonde and Andries picked up more in those fights than their entire boxing careers !................not sure what having pins in your shoulder has to do with anything but still........Leonard had a far harder fight with Lalonde than Hearns had with Andries but class told in the end for both.

oh dear your no sentiment realy shows .. having pins in your shoulder is not like fighting a light heavyweight of the likes of dennis andries not a injured light heavey fighting at 165 lbs come on how can you win a light heavywieght crown not that weight.. only golden boy leonard did that.. i think you realy need to rewatch the fights with this new info .. put your hand on your heart and say sugar ray had it easy in his boxing life .. not saying he wasnt a good showman ... but he would have made a better long distance runner ... at least this is your new excuse to rewatch your boxing .. as you say he drew the money just like don king .. who was the bloke who knocked leonard down terry ??? .. hearns was the real deal 5 weight champ .. and the is no sentiment in me i just feel i was being fooled watching sugar ray :) atb micckey :)

When Hearns fought Dennis he weighed in with trackie bottoms and a t shirt on.......and still came in 4 lb under.......................against an opponent who throughout his career struggled with speed !..............Hearns was the " real deal " champ was he / and thats not with your " hit man " glasses on :D ................i have a picture somewhere i,ll try and dig it out for you of Hearns and Leonard together a few years back you will be amazed that they could ever of fought at the same weight against each other !..........................I need to rewatch the fights with this new info  what new info......................i favour Hearns all day long as a fighter he had that air of vulnerability about him that a lot of big punchers have it makes for exciting fights...........but to say Leonard was anything but an all time great fighter is just silly.
