mad al 146
We first met in a McDonald's car park late one night He was hanging back behind his so called "owners"........almost out of sight He seemed timid and shy, they said "his name is Ty" I knelt down, beckoned him forward, he came and I told him to "sit" "He won't do that" they said I looked at him....he at me, my mind he read "Sit" I said and he did. I brought him home that night and from that moment on our friendship grew and grew. He became my right arm, my shadow............my boy. I hated the name "Ty" and soon changed it to "Dai, it suited him, his personality.................Dai Bach y Milwr (Little Dai the Soldier)...........he was fearless. Dai became the greatest dog I'd ever known, I refuse to use the word "owned", as I considered him my equal and nobody should ever be "owned". He was incredible, I'd only have to think about something and he'd be there, sometimes he'd come from another room even before I'd moved, he always knew what I was thinking. Sadly ,our time together was short lived and ever since the inevitable happened, I've constantly beaten myself for his untimely end, right up until today when I was talking to my lady about him and she told me that one day I would have to "let him go"........I feel today is that day. I have recently moved and Dai was buried where I used to live so I'm writing this to say "goodbye" to him............so my friends and all animal lovers on here alike, if you have ever had the pleasure of experiencing this type of bond, I ask you to join me and raise a glass/say goodbye to Dai...........he was my boy. Da boch Dai bach, run free little fella. Dad will never forget you and one day I'm sure we WILL meet again.
Uploaded with ImageShack.us Edited December 18, 2012 by mad al

tegater 789
The best real friend you will have. Sometime ago, somebody posted a poem about a dog that had gone, I think it may have been Malt. Maybe someone can add that to this thread.
The Seeker 3,048
Sorry for your loss, I've only just started on my journey with mine and I dread to think what it will be like many years from now,
scottishlass 57
I said goodbye to my best ever friend in october , she was nearly 15 had many a great day at shows terrier racing and great days ratting , i still miss her like hell. A Dog's Prayer. If it should be that I grow weak And pain should keep me from my sleep Then you must do what must be done, For this last battle cannot be won. You will be sad, I understand; Don't let your grief then stay your hand For this day more than all the rest Your love for me must stand the test We've had so many happy years What is to come can hold no fears, You'd not want me to suffer so, The time has come please let me go. Take me where my need they'll tend And please stay with me until the end, Hold me firm and speak to me Until my eyes no longer see. I know in time that you will see, The kindness that you did for me Although my tail its last has waved, From pain and suffering I've been saved. Please do not grieve, it must be you Who has this painful thing to do, We've been so close, we two, these years, Don't let your heart hold back its tears. tegater 789
It wasn't that one but thanks SL. Nice anyway!
Malt 379
I count myself lucky that I saw Dai in the flesh once. He was a fine looking animal, a fine example of what the breed should look like when they haven't been overbred for their looks. A real shame he's gone, but knowing Al I'm sure he'll never be forgotten..
