Giving tablets to a dog

My 8 month lab has a infection on the side of her top lip, it looks like an abscess/lump about half the size of your thumb.

I have had her to the vets and he has given her a two week course of antibiotics, one tablet twice a day.

The problem I have got is because of where it is I can't hold her mouth open to put the tablet in the back of her mouth and rub her throat like you would normally do to get a dog to swallow a tablet, I can't really hold her top jaw at all because of the infected area and the pain she is in when I touch it.

Has anyone any other tricks or tips to get the tablet in her. I tried wrapping it in a slice of ham this morning but she spat half the tablet out.

i normaly stick the tablet in a small cube of cheese and throw it to the dog. it wont even hit the floor and hel swollow it whole

butter will do the trick too, a lot harder to throw back up too

I always use a slice of corn beef it wraps around really easy and the dog never notices there is a pill they never spit meat back out lol

That's where I've been going wrong lol the dogs spaced out and I keep shitting these nasty longs things

You can get a syringe type thing especially for giving dogs tablets, they're only a couple of quid.

Simple. Cocktail sausages they come in packs of 50 really cheap cut the end off and eat it, or give it to the dog as a taster. Then push the tablet into the middle works every time. I had a JR who had serious heart problem was on 6 tablets a day, we called it tablet time and never had an issue as it's soft doesn't break up and they love them. Most supermarkets sell them.

 

I would like to point out I have no connection to them and other products on the Market are just as good......

if you have nothing to hand to wrap it in open mouth by pushing flesh at back of mouth inwards mouth will open also have a mouthful of water ready then put pill in mouth and spit your mouthful of water into dogs mouth pill gone no fuss

Mine are greedy bugger so will eat anything.

Last time they had Ardennes pâté or butter straight on the tablet, a slice of bread and butter works too.

 

Normally no need to force it down them lol

Brill thats exactly what i do. Better than wrapping meat round it as my dog is wise to that trick
