broonball 38
How do you make them? What do you use to stuff them? Does the skin need to dried or can a fresh skin be used. As the dog is not guna be running for a few weeks I'm going to do some work on her retrieving. Cheers Quote Link to post
Tyla 3,179
Buy a tennis ball on a rope, wrap a fresh rabbit skin round it anb bunch the extra up round the rope, cable tie the skin round the rope and cut off the extra. Leave that on a hot radiator for a couple of day and its done. The skin get kind of mummified. They last for ages as long as you dry it out again if it ever gets wet Quote Link to post

Cheers to be honest mate it makes no differnce what you use, just throw a ball , old sock covering a washing up bottle .When you x the line to a live rabbit, all this can go out of the window anyway. The most important thing in the pup or young dog training is ( recall) get that 100% , and do the odd retieve, but recall right 1st with nout in its mouth. My 18 week old pup will bring back rabbits now, not done much training at all, but his recall is 100% to get back to me.Same as Bryn was as pup never did much training , just loads of recall with a ball or nout in his mouth, and Bryn will back from any distance 1 Quote Link to post

broonball 38
Her recall is great bird at 14months it should be, its just the prey fetch we've struggled with, ball, toys etc no problem. Want to make a dummy to see if this makes a difference. With it being rabbit skin I know she will play with it 1st. Guna give it a go now I'll let you know her reaction and how we get on.cheers all Quote Link to post
tomas 9
I used a dry skin over a pair of socks stitched up with sawdust in them Quote Link to post
Ben1 3
i used a dried rabbit skin rapped around some newspaper rolled into a ball and sewed it with some fishing line... works a treat Quote Link to post
broonball 38
Guna have to have a rethink, she retrieved a couple of times then decided to eat the skin. Need to dry one out I think. Reverted to her stuffed toy and she retrieved perfectly. Can't wait for her knee to heel and get her back out. Cheers. Quote Link to post
