sandymere 8,263
At the end of the day a balanced diet is an appropriate mix of nutrients and with dogs this can be supplied in a variety of ways, I feed a complete along with meat and bones, veg, table scraps, the odd egg etc. I don’t feed a supplement on top because I recon if it isn’t in the diet it is not needed. Then of cause many supplements are a little dodgy, link to USA site but similar here. http://skeptvet.com/Blog/2012/07/fda-finds-widespread-and-serious-violation-of-safety-and-quality-control-regulations-for-dietary-supplements/ So if you want to add in extra then through diet is best ie many add in bananas or tomatoes to increase potassium. In truth potassium is the main salt in animal cells and as meat is just that if you feed meat there will be plenty of potassium, any extra is just excreted in the urine. But as tomatoes etc bring carbs, fibre and other nutrients they can be a good addition to a diet without the risk of upsetting the system by adding in pure potassium which can cause lots of problems. Plus if you believe it will make a difference you will see a difference. Of topic but just saw a chap with cat scratch disease (http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/214100-overview ) that he would seem to have gotten from a rabbit! Be careful out there lol. sandymere 8,263
I like the idea of a pork pie diet, as long as there's a few pickles and a drop of beer to go with it.
