GazCross 0
How old is the dog? Has it heard shot before? One of the best and cheapest ways I found was to walk from some distance away towards a clay pigeon shoot. Easy and effective. There is potential to spoil a 'nervy' dog. Dont just fire the pistol in his face (I'm sure you wont). Make loud noises as hes eating his ration and slowly introduce him to the 'bangs' so hes not frightened. Quote Link to post
precious 6
i Got mine from quest, and i can highly recommend it, http://www.questgundogs.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&path=82_96&product_id=259 as said, just be cautious intially and dont get too close to start with. loumic 47
have you tried using your hands first doesn't cost anything but always put a dummy or ball out so it's a good thing then move up to a gun but take it slowly. but for a gun try turner richards, ebay, blackdog, quest, lintran. kanigra 110
Thanks guys.Of course i won't fire it to close to her.She has heard fireworks at distance on a regular basis since i got her at 3 months & she doesn't bat an eye lid.So if i fire it at distance while the misses does a few retrieves with her to see her reaction that should be fine? kanigra 110
She's 8 mths. Quote Link to post
GazCross 0
OK. Age is fine. I'd start off while she is scoffing her tea....from distance and build up. Dont forget a starter pistol sounds nothing like a shotgun....so you will have to introduce her to the gun too. Quote Link to post

GEOFF.223 83
for my pitch i had 2000 ballons from a job i did a few years ago. i would blow them up then pop them now and again when i was playing with her but i never let her see the ballons so she never learnt were the noise came from as i didnt want her to get scarred when she seen a ballon. got her gradually worked up to the shotgun by first keeping her in the car in her comfy spot with windows up when i went to decoy crows at a local farm then gradually put more and more windows down. she was great after all that BUT i dodnt have any shotguns there for 9months and now im back shooting she's a little jumpy not overly bad just not 100 percent going to take her out tomorrow and throw a couple of dummy and let off a few shots to see if she is more interested in the dummy or the bang ..
