ferrets not running the warren

I have been out today with two of my ferrets. They seem to have just run from one side to the other not exploring the warren. I wasn't expecting to go out so I didn't take their food out the day before as I normaly do. I do have to admit they could do with losing a tiny bit of weight which I am sorting. One jill is 3 and has worked for years and the other is this yrs kit. They both worked fine last week. Any help would be great ta tom

Maybe there's no rabbits in the warren, my jills wont go under if there's nothing at home

It was strange as there was fresh droppings and we usualy get at least one out of this warren. On a plus note I have gained my self some permission only a horse field at the min which the land owner has given me as a trail with more when I prove myself

I done a couple of small warrens last week that had fresh diggings and droppings yet nothing at home. They may not use them all time

Obviously nothing at home ... And also there is no need to starve a ferret off the day before work ... Try working when you are starving fella ...........

I had the exact same thing today, all the signs said they were home but my two jills just didnt seem interested, was out from 7.30 till 13 00 and only the one rabbit in the bag, may be time to think about getting a dog. Still good to be out though.

I have a dog but he's only learning and I was told by an old bloke that used to hunt to starve them before you go out

I had a shite this morning before I left at 7:00am to go ferreting, I wasn't here all day, probably same as the rabbits mate!!

I wouldn't starve the ferrets either mate, low energy, possible lay-up etc, mine have food available 24/7, even before working!!

You cant call them lair's unless you ran another ferret threw the burrow and rabbits bolted . and as said you shouldn't need to starve them for them to work

I ran two through the warren the first one only being her second outing so I collared up my older jill and she did the same my dog marked the warren so I asumed at least one was there.

They usualy have food in all the time I was told to take it out the night before. But has so many of you had said and I can see your views and agree I will leave food in all the time
