The Seeker 3,048
Nothing wrong with a semi auto if that is you preference, Try both semi and bolt action to see what you prefer I have used and do use both bolt action and semi auto, I wouldn't be without my semi auto. I hear this a lot "but there not accurate" or "they jam all the time" this is usually (not always) from someone who has never even fired one nevermind owned one. Each to their own I suppose it wouldn't do for us all to like the same thing, I don't like Susan Boyle but she still sells plenty of records 1 Quote Link to post
cyclonebri1 8
I had a ruger 10/22 semi auto 22 and a ruger 77/22 bolt action at the same time, The b/a was producing groups of 1/2 the size of the semi at 80yds, the max I rate it at. Both those guns went about 10 years ago but I bought a brand spanking new ruger 77/22 with heavey target grey barrel and lam stock, it shoots the pants off both of those plus the Brno I had in between. Range for .22 as I said, any bunny at 80yds is dead meat given calm conditions and a steady rest, but it comes into it's own when you are shooting off hand ay say 40 yds, that's perfect 22 country. Maximum, the longest shot I ever did was shot on target at 175yds, aboute 16" of hold over if I recall. An interesting fact. In the USA a study was done on the leathal effect of a .22 lr rimfire gun. The longest shots they could record, becuase they couldn't hit the yard square target any further away was 440 yds, it was still producing leathal power (enough to kill a human with a head or chest shot) at that range, so don't go squirel shooting with 1. riflehunter583 58
if i were you i would defiatly have a .22lr for closer bunnies hares and very close fox and night shooting etc. its a great cheap allrounder. up to 120 yards if using a range finder. .17hmr will be good from say yards to 160 yards for bunnies etc but don't be put off buy going for the .223 and not the hmr after the .22lr i have done this recently and successfully but get some help with the application cause some of the feo are unhelpful at best. if you have anything larger than cwd munjac then you need a .243 and asking for a .223 when yu have roe or fallow or red is not going to help you with the feo. a good starting point is .22lr bolt (cz/anshutz) or semi auto (ruger) etc then work from there. Nice and unbiased, just forget the semi auto my personl preference is bolt over semi all day long for a number of reasons. but who am i to stop someone having some fun with a semi if thats what they want to shoot with. and its a good tool the americans use them for rat shooting in the swamps. and you can shoot a bolt gun .22 well  plus you can shoot a hmr well. :victory: Quote Link to post
