How many still bye the air gun comics I stopped buying them years ago as they were full of adverts

I stopped buying the mags when John Darling passed away and the features after him, began to read alike the adverts that were outweighing the features!

There all about product placement nowadays all the features talk more about what they drive wear shoot with and look through than the actual hunting

I buy them occasionally, used to have a subscription to gun mart, but so much crap and adverts and very little content, I usually pick one up on the way to the airport so that would be once a year

I'll have a read in the wh smiths up the road and maybe buy one a month depending which has got the least adverts and looks most interesting. Although quite a few months go by sometimes without a purchase due to the above criteria. If I want a halfway decent read I'll go for the country mans weekly or shooting times, bit more varied stories/articles and theyre cheaper!

Well most agree with me there full of adverts,when I first got in to shooting I loved reading John darlings articles and Richard norths but now I don't bother there just not a good read and not worth it with all them adds

That was his gift Phil. He could write with the sure knowledge of experience and he made it easy to understand the art of air rifle shooting without over-dressing the subject. He was a shaping influence in my own shooting make up. Nothing he wrote about didn't work!

 

What became of Richard North? I never hear of him these days.??

if you havent already got it, john darlings air rifle hunting is brilliant, informative and funny. Probably still my favourite book on the subject.

It's definatly him. I also checked out his linked in profile and it said long before the wow.com business he was md for simmons optics in the 90's. I've also got an old copy of airgunner with the old simmons advert with a picture of him and I think fred carter saying they use the latest simmoms wtc scope on there rapid 7 with crosman premiers etc..... If you see the advert you'll see the likeness. I also read he was on chanel 4's secret millionaire program giving a fortune away to good causes, so it would appear that he's a pretty decent bloke.!
