i free floated the barrel on my 17hmr and bedded it the accuracy became slightly worse.

 

not end of the world kind of worse just over the inch at 100 yards compared to before averaging a inch.

i had my cz452 bolt action,nickel,synthetic cut down and screw cut this year £40

How have you for on with it as Edgar brothers wreckon cz's are slightly choked at the muzzle and shouldn't be cut down.

A lad I know did his own with a hacksaw when he was a kid and it shoots ok but is nothing special.

 

I have heard and read this several times, and I am yet to find someone who has been able to measure this and I am yet to find anyone who has had any problems after cut and thread, (except botched jobs of course)!

my friend has just started shooting have been trying to convince him to get a ruger 10/22 for the summer as i have just ordered mine; but he is one of them lads that just dosnt listen.

 

i told him to get the cheapest stainless one he could get with a plastic stock so the is never gonna be problem in any whether condition AND do not get one with a heavy barrel as the land wee have is very hilly and goes for miles i have already explained to him the benefits of a heavy barrel which is no good to us SO anyway as he is the kind of fella that knows best he jumped the gun and bought the first one he seen.

 

A heavy stainless barrel fitted with a heavy/wide after market tatget stock.

You should have told him to buy the best,you know with a match trigger and match barrel,yep an Anschutz 14" barrel,simply the best rimfire made.

F#@K bolt action .22 had one thought it was good then got a go with my friends cz 511 semi auto best fun ever and no difference in accuracy out to 50 yards anyway

Your mate must have had a better made 511 than I had then. Virtually brand new but the grouping I got from it wa 3-4 times the size of any bolt action I've ever had.

 

yea same here the semi i had grouped badly to. then i got a bolt action and very happy. semis are fun and good out to say yards and a good follow up shot if first shot wounds but i found the bolt action is less noisy and more accurate at say 100 yards.

however the bolt can be noisy also when shooting rabbits at night close range.

 

i shot one rabbit and waited a few minutes and anoher walked onto the field 20 yards away. when i releaded using the bolt it ran off! a good semi migh have helped.

Only problem with semi auto's you have to clean them to keep them working correctly. I think Ive cleaned my 452 once since having it and it works every time.

I have never cleaned my 452 and it's accurate. I have never cleaned my AA S410 air rifle either, and that's spot on as well. Was told if it's lead that goes down it don't clean it, if it's copper that goes down it clean it, so the HMR gets a good seeing too every now and then and that's spot on.

452 isn't semi auto though!

 

I don't clean my .22 452 as much as my hmr 452, but eventually the bore will choke up. It is impossible for a lead bullet not to deposit lead in the bore.

Semi autos though will get stoppages if the carbon build up isn't removed.

i like to clean all my gun barrels as i firmly belive it improves accuracy. even if cleaning is just a few pulls through with a patch without detergent or oil so its always leaded to some degree. airgun / 22lr.

 

for copper jacket bullets i belive the brush needs to be used to get the copper out and the carbon build up etc.

Do you really need a semi auto. I mean are you that bad a shot or are you faced with some very dangerous bunnies!!

Having seen the killings of kids in America, Dunblane and the killing of adults in Hungerford, can you justify the need for semi autos or full autos.

 

Like many on here, I have a vast experience of HV full/ semi auto and seen the affects of them. Why as a hunter do you feel the need?

I am not against shooting, I love all forms if it, but lets help ourselves, help the sport!!
