skycat 6,173
The only way to stop it is to bandage the dog's ear up and tape it to his head so if he shakes his head he won't shake the ear loose and make it bleed again. Pad the torn bit with cotton wool, fold the ear on top of the head, then wrap around the entire head: if you use Vetwrap as in the photo (a bit of overkill with the wrapping in that photo LOL) you'll also have to use a sticking plaster type roll to stick it to the head itself or the dog will scrape it off. Terrier sized dog you can just use sticky stuff to hold the ear on top of the head. I use Elastoplast fabric strapping, comes in a roll: a dog would have to be Houdini to get that stuff off. Just make sure not to do it too night under the jaw so the dog can still breathe , eat and drink. Allow the undamaged ear to poke out through the bandage. Quote Link to post

riou 6
skycat is spot on with his advice happened to me about 6 months back tried everything to stop the bleeding and nothing worked but after speaking to a lad with greyhounds he gave me the same advice and it works a treat ;) Quote Link to post
paulus 26
depending on how bad the cut is would determine the treatment, small cuts can be clotted in seconds by dipping the cut in pottassium permanganate crystals, i use it all the time for the treatment of small rips and tears on the ears when they have been out bushing. larger cuts then follow the above advice, but it looks gay Quote Link to post

walshie 2,804
Yeah. I'd never make my dog look gay like that! at least its not flo pink  Only cos the vet was out of pink bandage. Seriously though all the vet did was put sudocream on it and bandage it. Healed quite quickly once she couldn't flap it about. Quote Link to post
